I am a risk-averse iPod Touch 2G owner. Still, I couldn't make myself pay the price of an A/C charger at the Apple store. I searched exhaustively for the best-reviewed cheap charger and concluded that this item is it. (I certainly wanted to stay away from the "Apple" USB Power Adapter for iPod/iPhone masquerading as an OEM accessory but labeled with "designd" and "equipmnet.")
I couldn't completely shake all nervousness, because there is not a charger that doesn't have at least one report of serious problems (the ultimate, of course, being damage to the iPod or iPhone). Since it seems from the reviews that the various sellers may offer different (and thus better or worse) items under the rubric of this page, I ordered from SF Planet, not from some of the worse-reviewed sellers whose customers have reported problems. I paid three dollars including shipping and received the item within a couple of days.
The charger I received is as pictured; the wall plug has an LED light (which permanently shines red), and the short cord (35") connects to the iPod on the other end. Besides the somewhat ungenerous length, the only obvious negative is that the little metal teeth that are supposed to keep the plug in have simply never worked, on my unit. (Thus I never need to use the release buttons on the plug's side, which are meant to enable insertion and removal.) However, the plug does not fall out, even when I'm using the iPod vertically and plugged in, so this is a minor complaint.
After using the charger several weeks, I can say that it works great, charges quickly, and inspires confidence. I can use the iPod Touch 2G as normal while I am charging. It never becomes noticeably warm.
One of my main reasons for writing this review is to promise that, if I ever experience any problems with this charger, I will update this review with a full report. So, if I have not, you can assume I have been using the charger regularly and happily since the date of the review.
