Customer Review: Best webcam I've ever used.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is definitely the best webcam I've ever used, and that's not even considering the fact that I paid less than six dollars for it. As soon as I plugged it in, I was able to use it with my video capture software on both Windows 7 and on my secondary Linux install. The picture quality is better than I expected from a cheap webcam, and the framerate and quality are even better with the right positioning and lighting conditions. I originally got this to try out basic head tracking for my computer, but I quickly noticed one feature that I'm sure many people have overlooked: When you set the focus extremely close, you can get near-microscope zoom on some objects. I tried a strand of my hair, scraps of paper, my eyelashes, and even candy, and the webcam displayed beautiful detail in them that the naked eye generally can't see. I've also used it with Skype and Chatroulette, and of course it performs flawlessly. Definitely a great product, and I'll surely recommend it to anyone I know that doesn't already have a webcam.

Customer Review: Great Cheap Camera
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this camera so the kids and I can skype with my husband when he is away for work. It works great for a cheap camera. My husband can clearly see us on the other end. I do recommend watching the video review by the guy on here as it clues you in on how to operate it. The camera doesn't come with any sort of manual or anything else for that matter. It is simple that you just plug it into the usb port and my laptop did the rest on finding the right driver. I'm not totally sure what the other half of the cord was for. I thought it was the microphone as when I've unplugged it talking to my husband it affects the microphone, but not sure reading other reviews. A simple diagram from the company would've been nice. Both yahoo messenger and skype recognized the camera. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a camera for video chatting. It's cheap enough that if it breaks you can easily replace it. I have other cameras for fancy stuff this is good for what I bought it for.

Customer Review: Piece of junk
Summary: 1 Stars

The product description claims "4 LED lights for night vision viewing".

They're for blinding the person using the camera. They're extra bright white LEDs, not infra-red, as "night vision" describes.

I unplugged it after a minute, most of which was spent picking up my jaw at the audacity of the seller using a lie to describe this product.

Yes, strictly speaking the words "night" and "vision" can be used to describe something that floods an area with bright light so as to make it possible to have "vision" at "night", but this is NOT what "night vision" means.

It's bulky compared to other webcams, it has that flimsy shiny tacky feeling. I'm dropping it in a donation box somewhere so that some charity can benefit. It would probably cost me more than this thing cost me to return it and cross my fingers for a refund of any kind.

Yes, I know. For $7 what did I expect? I expected the description not to outright lie.

Customer Review: Good camera, zero help
Summary: 4 Stars

The camera was shipped promptly and it seems to work. Quality is good for the price. But it had no instructions or help of any kind. The vendor did not answer my query asking for help -- I'd like to know what software to use with it stand-alone.

The camera does not show up as a device in "My Computer". Apparently it requires software or a web site that recognizes it.

I thought this came from HDE and exchanged several message with them until they found I'd gotten if from DreamBargans. HDE told me about a web site that allows using the camera (but only while connected to the Web): [...]

My initial use of the camera is a bit unusual -- to check for leaves in a gutter above my bedroom window. I rubber-banded it to a stick and reached it out the window. It told me that I'd been using a vacuum in the wrong place and helped me get the gutter cleaned. (I do not have a tall enough ladder.)

Customer Review: I ordered 1, then 2 more & plan to order more
Summary: 5 Stars

We ordered one of these as a "test" -- the price & claim was too good to pass up.
Tested it w/o custom drivers (Windows XP) and it was recognized & was perfect. Quality was awesome -- focused fast.
Worked in low lights; and in really low lights there's a rheostat switch on the cable to increase the lights (visible white LED)
Works well. We ordered 2 more for a video conference test.
Pending results & what my client says -- we will order more for his company in-house conferencing system.

The "windows" drivers recognize it and works out of the box -- no drivers came with it; images at 640x480 only with our software... Hopefully the custom drivers will increase that.

Recommended -- for the price, you can't go wrong!

Update: There are no custom drivers for this; so you're stuck with whatever windows recognizes it as, in my case (on 3 os's) it's 640x480.
