Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of 5.0 Megapixel USB PC Webcam Camera for PC Laptop NotebooCustomer Review: Great, But... Summary: 4 Stars
This camera has amazing clarity, and the LEDs gives it an image, even in the dark. The problem I have always had with other web cams, yeah the cheap ones, is they needed a lot of light to get other than a dark image, and the image you get is low resolution. Not with this camera!
Now for the reasons I only rated it as a 4. First, I bought it for my step daughter who has an older lap top running Windows 2000; they camera asks for drivers in Windows 2000. I e-mailed the coompany who sells this through Amazon, and they sent me an executable program that was supposed to be a driver, but it did not work. I ended up upgrading the lap top to Windows XP. It recongognized the camera (no drivers needed), but I only got a black image. The only thing I can figure out is because the lap top only has USB 1.1 ports, and not 2.0, even though the tech specs above says this camera works with USB 2.0 or 1.1 ports, this doesn't appear to be the case.
So, if you have a newer computer running XP or Vista (I tried this camera with both of the OS's and it worked without drivers) and USB 2.0 ports, then you can't beat this camera.
Customer Review: Good product, awesome pricing Summary: 5 Stars
I have an in-built webcam in all my laptops and have been pretty happy with them. They are 2 Megapixel ones.
This last time, when I came to a company trip, I decided to take my company laptop with me. This one doesn't have a Webcam and the system was set up to prevent installation of additional hardware. Some crappy corporate policy.
Anyways, I required a Webcam to chat with my wife and wasn't interested in investing over 25$ in Logitech or Microsoft when I wasn't even sure if they will work or not.
To add to the worries, my roomie and I ordered two different webcam from amazon. His arrived a day early and I tried but it didn't work.
Thankfully, this one came and worked like a charm. For starters, lack of a driver CD is a boon as the webcam is self-sufficient in itself. The webcam is simple to use but the LED's are quite powerful and can provide sufficient lighting in dark to make the subject visible. Build is robust and clarity is good. Best thing is that it works on Linux and Windows 7 alike.
Overall, a very good buy if you are looking for a cheap webcam and no crapware.
Customer Review: Weird image artifact, but takes EXTREME closeups - 0 mm! Summary: 1 Stars
The seller of this item is A1. When I complained about the problem in the image, he sent me another straight away and didn't ask that the first be returned. Unfortunately, the second has the exact same problem as the first: there is a paisley-like background pattern that you can see against any dark parts of the image. It must be something in the CCD chip design. I should have heeded all the other one * ratings. If you don't care much about the image, you may not notice the paisley pattern. If you are always high when you do video conferences, you might like it! :) I might keep it for use as a bar-code scanner, since the manual focus can be adjusted to see very sharply 0 mm! (yes, even negative) A 3mm by 5mm square fills the screen with perfect focus! Yes, really! If you need a video camera to take pictures of an ant, this will work. But you will sea the darn paisley pattern over dark areas!
But be careful with the built-in LED video lights. When I was adjusting their brightness, my MacBook Pro didn't like what was happening to its USB port and had a kernel panic.
Customer Review: this camera is great Summary: 5 Stars
i cant figure out why there is so many bad reviews on this camera. i bought this camera because of its price and before reading reviews. after reading the reviews, i was skeptical on how it would perform. i received the product within a couple days of ordering, got it home, open the simple plastic packaging it came in. there was a small piece of paper with very few instructions on it. I plugged the camera into my usb port, it was detected immediately and windows 7 installed the generic usb 2.0 camera drive. i was confused a moment on how to test it. I loaded up chat roulette and much to my surprise, it worked flawlessly. The picture quality in my opinion is simply amazing for the price. My computer room/office is relatively dark, and let me tell you, this picture was almost as bright as if I would have windows letting light in. this camera is totally worth the couple of dollars spent on it. I have had several different webcams from makers like Logitech, HP, Microsoft, easily paying 30, 40, 50+ dollars and NONE of them have come close to the quality of this little guy.
Customer Review: What the?? What are the buttons for and where is the software? Summary: 3 Stars
OK... First- it does say no built in mic. in the description-- something I didn't remember when I opened the package-- because the BOX say built in mic. included.....
There is a button on the top of the cam, an rotating switch that says off and on at the base-- both of which I have no idea what they do... The cord has a switch to turn the lights off and on.
The description states software included.
I guess I dont' mind that the software isn't there-- but it is misleading.. And there isn't even a diagram on or in the box to tell me what the buttons do... Of course, being in the WRONG box probably doesn't help.
I bought this so we could Skype on Christmas-- Now I'm not sure I can even figure out how to use it..since there's absolutely nothing to tell me what to push/pull etc.
Yes, it's cheap. And yes, you get what you pay for. But I didn't get the described product (no software) and my one day shipping that I paid for, turned to 2 days..... Not really happy overall.
