I tried visiting the national chain stores looking for SmartMedia cards; with no positive results. I then started calling on the phone all of the local location computer stores and still found no positive results. The next attempt on my list was to try all the camera shops as a last hope, and after the third phone call I knew that it was a search going nowhere ! This was an attempt to have a product in hand to be used the very same day. I accepted this was not going to happen and started my online search. This proved to be the way to go with the question going from "can I find one ?" ... to " what brand and how much do I spend ?" . The choice was easy with both parts of the question being answered by one card! The Samsung SmartMedia 128MB was the only choice for me. It is a brand I know at a price less than half of some of the other well known brands. My order arrived faster than expected and the card is working perfect at the time of this review ! This I purchased this for use in a Gemstar 1150 Ebook. After following the instructions found on the net to format the card in the device, I had no problems moving content from my PC's 8in1 Card reader to the card. Card did not come in retail packaging, but it appears to be new. To extend the life of the card, I picked up a little tip on the net :
1) take a piece of standard tape, a little bit longer than long side of the card. Place one end of the tape a little bit above the contacts, so it wraps over the top end (non contact end)
2) Fold the tape over the top of the card, and leave a little bit sticking over to create a pull tab.
3) Take another piece of tape, and wrap it around the card so it crosses over the first piece of tape to secure it.
You have now created a nice pull tab so you can easily pull the card out of a device. The tab is flexible, so it can be folded to fit inside the card door.

IF you can get this from ShopTronics for $39.99 that's the best price I've seen on a 128MB Smartmedia card. The availability has come and gone over time so when it's available at that price grab it. A lot of other Amazon retailers are trying to get a lot more for a 128MB card.
How much can you say about a memory card? Mine formatted and works fine with my Fuji MX2900 Zoom camera. It comes with a plastic storage case and labels for the card.
The only point of concern I have: This is the only Smartmedia card I have seen that has a rectangular "cut out" on the reverse side of the card. All other cards I own have a solid back on the side opposite the contacts. I'm a little concerned that this weakens the integrity of the card, considering how hard you need to push on some Smartmedia cards to get them seated in place. I would suggest treating it very gently.

I have been using a compact flash card in my digital camera until recently due to that slot got broke/worn out. I was going on vacation in less then 5 days and wanted to get a smart media card. I looked high and low and all I got was cards in the high 80-135 dollar range. I wasnt going to pay that kind of money. I then tried walmart/radioshack, staples,office max and got no where-they didnt sell them at all. I tried amazon and their it was-no problemfinding it and the price was right,plus I got it with 2 days ahead of leaving for my vacation. I was so amazed amazon had it after the difficult time I had fing a smart card. I am always checking amazon first before any other site if I need something. Susan had been searching everywhere for these Smart Media cards, and could not find any that were affordable, let alone find that many of them. After a difficult lesson of finding out you cannot reformat the cards using the computer, they can only be reformatted in the camera,We had a horrible time finding new cards. We could find 8mg cards after a lot searching, but those aren't large enough. So, we were pleasantly surprised to find the 128 MG Smart Media card for her Olymmpus camera at Shoptronics, through Amazon. I can't tell you my surprise at how quickly we received it! This card will make her picture taking this holiday season all the more memorable at a price we can afford. We highly recommend Shoptronics to everyone, they are awesome!
