Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Gary Fong Puffer Pop Up Flash Diffuser - CANON/NIKON

Customer Review: Next best thing to the lightsphere
Summary: 4 Stars

I previously bought a diffuser for my dslr on camera flash. But it felt off and was hard to keep in place. I did some testing with the puffer and it turned out to be better results the my other diffuser. It can't beat my gary fong lightsphere but it is the best on camera flash diffuser I have bought and at the price it is a no brainer. I didn't give it five stars because I had to do a little of shaving to make it fit in my camera and it is fragile. So grab it my the mount and pull out and not the diffuser itself. It fits comfortably in my bag. Good buy.

Customer Review: Useless
Summary: 1 Stars

A fellow shutterbug friend recommended this, and when I saw some photos she'd taken with it on her Nikon, I was convinced. However, it may have been other processing on her more upmarket camera that improved the images. I got this and tried test shots in various lighting conditions with human subjects and not only was there little to no difference, the only difference I did see was that the exposures became insufficient since the illumination from the flash was inevitably reduced.

Cannot recommend.

My camera: Nikon D40

Customer Review: Nifty Product
Summary: 5 Stars

I really love this product. It tames the power of the the built-in flash of the Nikon D40 and gives a smooth even light that renders good skin tones and crisp colors that are not washed out. While at first it is a bit hard to insert the the diffuser part on to the piece that attaches to the hotshoe mount, it won't break if you are gentle with it. I didn't just push the pieces together at first. I slowly pushed and rotated one black peg in at a time to expand the holes on the diffuser part. Then I slowly worked both in at the same time.

Customer Review: Not impressed
Summary: 2 Stars

The first issue with this product is that it will not fit into the hot shoe of my Nikon D60 without cutting off part of the diffuser. This is why there are so many reviews of broken diffusers - people force it on to their camera. I took a razor and shaved off some of the base so it would fit.

Once it was on I realized I had waste my money. Setting my camera's flash to -1EV produced the same results as using the diffuser. I took many shots of my children and -1 vs the differ were indistinguishable.

Customer Review: Great until it breaks
Summary: 3 Stars

A flash diffuser really warms your pictures, the lighting is softer and the shadows disappear. A great product in theory, but I have to agree with the reviews here. I have bought two of these for myself, both from Amazon and they have both broken. I bought one as a gift for my mother, hers just broke too. The design is flawed where the two arms meet, not enough plastic.

Great idea, executed in a weak fashion. Should give it two stars but really like the way it works prior to breaking...
