Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Gary Fong Puffer Pop Up Flash Diffuser - CANON/NIKON

Customer Review: great for popup flashes
Summary: 4 Stars

I just got this for use on a new Pentax K200d. It fits fine and softens harsh flash effects at close range. It doesn't seem flimsy to me, but as a previous reviewer stated it's only plastic. Mine fits tight in the hotshoe, but seems to be loosening up a little with use. I simply insert it in the 'shoe until it's snug and not necessarily all the way in.
My only criticism so far is since it's fairly rigid it's a little inconvenient to carry in a small bag. It does fit in a shirt pocket while not on camera.

Highly recommended for improving the camera's popup flash effect.

Customer Review: good product for price
Summary: 3 Stars

For the price of the product, I think the product works fine. However, the white plastic portion of the product is quite flimsy. I am extremely careful when putting it on the black pegs to attach to camera. As well, the white plastic portion is hard to attach to the pegs, and the fact that it is flimsy doesn't help.

With all that said, the product produces great results, and does exactly what I would expect it to do. The price is reasonable and I haven't seen too many products that do the same thing. I would recommend it if you can be careful with your photography products!

Customer Review: does the job but flimsy
Summary: 2 Stars

I got this for my Nikon D80 for indoor snapshots of my kids. I watched a youtube tutorial on how to properly install it, and once I recieved it I thought it would be a piece of cake. It broke in two on my first attempt. I am still able to use it (for how long, I dont know) and it does do a fantastic job at diffusing the light. My photos look natural, clear and bright.
If you aren't looking to drop a couple hundred on a Speedlight and just want something cheap to go with your pop up flash, this would be it. Just expect to get what you pay for as far as durability goes!

Customer Review: Part of my poor man's studio
Summary: 5 Stars

Along with the expected use for softening the built-in flash for quick and dirty shots, I use this in conjunction with a remote flash in slave mode to make up a poor man's studio of sorts. Dialing down the power of the built-in, I can create a pleasing fill-in, and the main flash off camera can be used for effects and backlighting.

I am the unofficial company photographer and the budget is non-existent so this went a long way in providing a lot of usefulness for only a little money. I really like it and use it any time I anticipate needing to use the built-in flash.

Customer Review: Junk will hurt your eye
Summary: 1 Stars

The Diffuser is very bad for the cameraman, because the flash actually bounce back, it can nearly blind your flash in secs. Just buy small diffuser bag that work better and won't hurt you eye. Also the puffer pop up is poor qualiry made, is too easy to make it fold apart and I worry the plastic might hurt the hot shoe since is poorly made and sometime hard to take it out. No diffuser pop up can replace external flash, biggest advntage of external flash is bounce up for indoor while you can't do with pop up, it won't look as nature compare to bounce flash.
