Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Gary Fong Puffer Pop Up Flash Diffuser - CANON/NIKON

Customer Review: Works Great
Summary: 5 Stars

I use this with a Canon EOS Rebel XTi & 24-105 F4 L Lens.

I have slapped together and diffuser in the past using tissues and cardboard and that worked well. This works much better than that. The curved shape with the bumpy dots really help to diffuse the light. I had to do some trial and error with the flash exposure compensation till I got the power output right.

This looks great too. My camera doesn't look bulky or weird with this assembled on it. Definitely a lot more compact and easier to carry around than an external flash. My camera, lens, charger & this diffuser fit in my Crumpler '3 million dollar home' camera bag

Customer Review: Money Well Spent
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Puffer as an impulse buy while out of town for Thanksgiving (Black Friday Sale at the local camera store). Paid a bit more for it in Small Town America than Amazon pricing - but it really did make a huge difference in the quality of shots with my both my Rebel Xti and Canon 40D pop up flash. It's no softbox, but indeed warms up the picture - but not so much that I feel the need to cool them down in Photoshop.

If you're like me, you like trinkets...and probalby have dozens that you've used just once. This is a pretty neat one that costs only a few shekels that you'll be glad you bought and you'll use again and again.

Customer Review: Better than nothing
Summary: 4 Stars

Used this as a temporary fix until I purchased an actual flash and diffuser for my Rebel XS.

Pros:
- Best (read: only) diffuser for pop-up flashes
- Solid constructionn albeit plastic
- Easy to use, assemble and understand

The cons aren't really cons against this product more against the pop-up flash itself. If you are trying to do serious lighting with a pop-up flash then you are going to fail from the get-go. This product does help with medium to longer range diffusion but it's shortcomings are because of the flash, there is not a lot to work with so it does the best it can.

Customer Review: Good Investment for Beginners
Summary: 4 Stars

This was recommended to me by my local camera shop. I would give it a 5 star b/c it has made all my portrait pictures look better, but the quality of the build is flimsy & brittle. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for this as long as the brackets are made of metal or a sturdier material than what it's made of now. I'm on my 2nd one, the first one lasted me about 3 months with only weekend use. It's cheap so I dont mind buying..I might actually just make my own bracket. Overall, if you're budget cant afford you a flash or if you want something small & easy to bring around I highly recomend this.

Customer Review: YEAH IT BROKE!!!! But They Replaced it FREE
Summary: 2 Stars

The first time I put it on my D200, the mounting base broke in two!!!! I knew from previous reviews this could happened so I was very careful. Didn't matter... I applied very little pressure but it just snapped. It still works ( but you have to carefully align the 2 pieces) and does what it says it will do for the flash, but there is a definite design flaw... For the money I expected something a little better!!!! If it didn't break I'd give it 4 stars....

7/25 Just to followup. It's true... They will replace it for FREE if you call... 1-800-906-6447x1 Now it rates 4 Stars!!!
