Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Gary Fong Puffer Pop Up Flash Diffuser - CANON/NIKONCustomer Review: Great Concept - Huge Design Flaw Summary: 1 Stars
I read all the reviews before buying this and I knew it was expecting it to be a little flimsy. Well, with that in mind I very carefully and gently went to put it on my Canon 40D and what do you know, it snaps in two pieces on the first try!
Luckily, the white diffuser piece still kind of holds the unit in place so you can still make it work even thought the base is split in two. I wish I could have given this a better rating but the fact that I didn't even get a chance to use it before it broke just really keeps me from being able to do that.
I've contacted the seller to see if they will offer any replacement but my hopes are pretty low. We'll see...
Buyer beware.
Customer Review: Exactly as expected. Summary: 5 Stars
I have read reviews of other Gary Fong products and never purchased one. I have been stuck many times without a flash and not wanted to use the pop-up flash on my Olympus E500 because of redeye and overexposure issues. I received my Puffer today in the mail. It works great! Exactly as expected. The puffer is made completely out of plastic and fits snuggly on the hotshoe mount. There are several hight adjustments (holes to mount the diffuser) and I haven't found the best height yet. I snapped a few pictures with the flash at full power and no images had redeye and the skin tones looked natural without any over exposure highlight areas. This is a definate must have for the camera bag!
Customer Review: Worthwhile Addition Summary: 4 Stars
This was a worthwhile addition to my Canon XSi. Made a notable difference in lighting. It's no substitute for a real flash with a real diffuser, but it's also VERY convenient and small.
Build: Pretty good. Plastic but feels solid.
Usefulness: Makes the built in pop-up flash actually useful! That's a big deal.
Price: Ouch! $25 for two pieces of injection molded plastic! Oh well, it's this or a 3 cent piece of copy paper which is both inconvenient and stupid looking.
P.S. - Adding the 3 cent paper in front of this diffuser actually makes it even better.
Happy? YES!
I still need a real flash though.
Customer Review: cheap but very effective Summary: 5 Stars
excellent pop-up flash diffuser. it is very lightweight and sturdily built. i'm a beginner and have never used a real flash unit before. i opted to buy this product instead of a separate flash unit because it was low-cost and the reveiews were good. i used it on my nikon d60 and it produced outstanding results! the resulting soft and diffused light added more warmth and a touch of professionalism to my photos. it is excellent for indoor shots and even outdoor shots depending on how you set your flash level. it is also very easy and convinient to carry around, in fact, it's so compact and portable i just leave it in my pocket and take it out only when i need to use my flash.
Customer Review: Would buy again! Summary: 5 Stars
I was skeptical about buying this diffusor after reading so many mixed reviews on this item. I think part of the problem in regards to sturdiness has been fixed now. I have had no problem slipping this into the shoe mount. It is sturdy enough. I don't feel as if I'm going to break it when I slip it on the shoe mount. I read other reviews where people said they wouldn't throw it in their bag because it might break. I slip it into another compartment of my Tamarac sling bag and have no worries about it breaking in the bag. If I put a heavy lens on top of it then yes it might break.. common sense tells you not do that! Does what it says it will do! Would buy again.
