Customer Review: A very handy pocket light

The light is true white, brilliant, in a frequency very easy on the eyes and very good at revealing detail, and focused in a medium cone, neither a flood nor a pencil beam; the unit size is just right for a pocket or pocket book, or to hold clenched in the teeth; they are tough, and cheap enough that if broken, it's no great loss. I've had one fail - the retaining ring came out as I changed batteries.
I bought one of these at Wal Mart, and promptly bought another half dozen. I have them sitting in various places around the house, handy in the event of power failure, but tend to use them whenever I need a bright light. I bought a second half dozen from Amazon when Wal Mart stopped stocking them, to use in the workplace (I work at night) and to give away, as presents and to replace those 'borrowed' from me.
They come in at least three colors - red, black, and yellow.
About the best value for the money I've found, and I've voted with my wallet - to date, I've spent over $80 on them.

I maintain computer systems at a large govenment command. I usually arm my pockets with flat & phillips tweekers, multi-head screwdriver, two Leathermans and a small flash light. I have always carred a mini-Mag brand light and was always annoyed by the dead spot in the center of the beam. I bought a 9 LED Garrity at our exchange. I was amazed at its small size and the amount of light it puts out with NO dead spot at all! At 3 3/4 x 1 1/4 inches, it easily fits in my pocket along with the other tools I carry with me at work. Since most of our workstations are under the user's desks, I spend a lot of my day on my knees under their desks! (OK, I set you up for the jokes!). I was so impressed that I bought 30 of them. I gave 1 to each of my fellow co-workers as a gift. I also furnished my house and cars. I never have to look for a flashlight again as I have one in every room. Enough said. Like many men, I consider myself a flashlight connoisseur. I've owned Garritys, Maglites, Evereadys, Photons, and Dorcys and have never been more impressed with my little Garrity 9 LED. I now own three, but I bought my first one on a trip to the beach this summer (2007). It was hands-down the brightest flashlight on the beach. At home I use my flashlights for everything--working in the crawlspace and the attic, late night trips to the mailbox, and miscellaneous home-improvement and home-emergency tasks. My only warning is to be aware of incorrect battery insertion instructions on the little cartridge (remember that the negative battery terminal compresses the spring not the positive terminal). I've found all three of my Garrity 9 LEDs at Wal-Mart for around $5. Also, this flashlight will not eat up your batteries. I'm still going strong on my original flashlight and original batteries.Customer Review: Super Flashlight

This flashlight puts out an incredible amount of light...nice even white light that's blindingly bright! Multi-LED flashlights like this should be thought of more as a lantern for illuminating the area immediately around you rather than a spotlight - It's not for putting a focused beam on an object 100 feet away but for almost all home and auto purposes I can imagine using it for, it's great!
To present a balanced viewpoint, I had gotten a second one to give to my dad and I had exactly the issue that was described by a previous reviewer where the retainer ring came out when loading the batteries which allowed the contact strip to come out of its groove and then crumple up rendering the flashlight useless but I just exchanged it. Just be a little careful when putting the batteries in and this shouldn't happen (and you won't have to replace the batteries very often anyway).

This is not a bad product, considering the price. The 9 LEDS are fairly bright. However, the build quality leaves MUCH to be desired and it cancels the value of the light. The metal contact strip inside the light came loose. One end of the strip separated and the entire strip became bent; this prevented the insertion of the battery pack. The light now is totally unusable. The good news is that the company honored its lifetime warranty. It is now in the process of sending me a check for the replacement cost of the light (Duracell no longer offers these lights so it could not send me a relacement). If you want a cheap "disposable" light, then this may be the light for you. On the other hand, if you want or really need a durable and reliable light, you would be well advised to look elsewhere.
