Customer Review: Absolute piece of crap.
Summary: 1 Stars

This unit is not available any longer, which is a good thing. If you're looking to buy one used, run away as fast as you can. It's a HORRIBLE unit. The CPU is horribly underpowered for what they are trying to accomplish with this unit. In many instances the unit will simply freeze up trying to figure out what to do next and becomes unresponsive (but may eventually continue). This occurs in various places but one place I've noticed it happening a lot is when trying to find the nearest 'something' (say, gas stations) and you have the screen listing the places and arrows indicating the direction to them. It'll often just hang up on this screen.

I was excited to receive it for Christmas a while ago but it was a horrible 'upgrade' from the 680 I was using previously. These should have been recalled and melted down.

Customer Review: Works great, period!

Right out of the box the Garmin 880 works great. It is feature packed and the voice recognition works better than average. Just take in account road noise, air cond. noise and of course your radio will interfere with it working properly. I purchase Micro SD Ram, attached it to my PC and uploaded a 100 mp3. So besides the Garmin getting me to my destination it plays my mp3 through my FM radio, Place and answer call with the built in Bluetooth and volume auto adjusts to give you blow by blow turning directions. Add MSdirect link, 3mo. free and 10 bucks for an addition 6 months and you have it all. No GPS is perfect, but I think the 880 is as close as you're going to get. It a pricy unit and Garmin should include hard travel. I bought the 2gb Micro Ram with an adapter and a hard case online for $20.

Customer Review: Major road trip
Summary: 3 Stars

Just completed a 7000 mile USA road trip with the Nuvi 880 as my navigator. Generally I was satisfied with its performance. Especially when in a big city. She gave ample warning when to exit and what side of the highway to be on. But here's the "but". The voice recogniztion and the blue tooth were a pain. So had I known I would have gotten the 750 instead. To me the $500 extra was not well spent. Talking to it on the road was pain - just type in all your addresses before leaving. The bluetooth hands-off at best is sub-standard quality - hard to hear and hard to talk to over the road noise. Also the Bluetooth-FM thing "Forget about it". It kept going out of range. One other thing - She could not find a single Starbucks. They either moved or shut down - Not Good.

Customer Review: Better than ever

As full time RVers, we have been using navigation systems since their infancy. User friendliness, accuracy, voice commands and an easy to read screen make this unit a must-have. A buggaboo we've run into relates to the voice commands. We have a very large, noisy truck (a small semi-tractor,really) and the unit, on occasion, has difficulty understanding my voice commands.
Note: this unit is not recommended for motorcycles as it is not waterproof. However, we have it mounted on our motor scooter. Unfortunately, the Garmin's Bluetooth won't sync with our helmets communication system. Not sure which device is at fault.
Unit works well when plugged in. However, the battery has relatively low capacity untethered.

Customer Review: antiquated map
Summary: 1 Stars

Garmin Nuvi 880......... Really thought this would be a good one... I immediately found that their map was evidently created by someone aged 3-4...... The map was inaccurate in quite a few instances.... It misplaced some places by several hundred feet and did not show continued roads that were built at the same time.... In two cases at least it showed partial roads...... I was not happy at all with the maps. Paying hundreds of dollars for a gps and finding you can do better by just guessing (that's an exaggeration but you get the idea... ) Contacted Garmin... Their reply: It's the best they've got.... They need to get some cartographers that are worth their salt and to CORRECT their maps... DWS
