Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin nuvi 660 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: Great... for a while Summary: 3 StarsI got the Garmin Nuvi 660 in March 2008. It was a fabulous device and worked perfectly for everything I needed from it. It had a few problems when we were in big cities - I suppose the big buildings made it difficult to get signal and it would occasionally get confused and recalculate.
Over time the calculations took longer and longer. It's gotten very bad recently. The initial calculation takes a very long time. It has almost always has trouble acquiring satellites. I often check google maps for the first 10 minutes of my trip because I know my Nuvi will take a while to pick up a signal. This is pretty unacceptable.
It also lost it's speaker capabilities about two months ago. It crackled for about a day and went silent. It made a few sounds over the next few days but it hasn't spoken since.
Turning it off and on, fully charging, and generally taking good care of it does nothing to correct these situations. I loved it for a while but I'm beginning to look for a new one.
Customer Review: Easy to use - Wonderful wide screen-Definitely a good investment Summary: 5 StarsI am moving to NC in a few weeks and I know nothing of the roads and highways there. For years I have depended upon mapquest to get me to my destination. Last week I decided to splurge on this Garmin 660 in hopes that it would help me get around in NC once I got down there. I did alot of research on the Garmin products and based my decision for the 660 after reviewing the Amazon 5 star ratings/amount of ratings for each model. Mind you, newer units will obviously have fewer ratings but I would prefer to buy a product thats been on the market a while and has been shown to be "tried and true." The Nuvi 660 (at the time that I purchased it) had 1500 ratings and the avg rating was a 4 and 1/2 stars. This product has been on the market a while and waas recently discontinued.
But, in either case, raters were pleased overall with the product so I bought it. Now in all honesty I highly doubt that I'll use the bluetooth and the "extras" but I want a GPS that is acurate, dependable, and didnt require a Phd to use it. I have played with the 660 for the last couple of days and can confirm that it is indeed acurate and dependable (not to mention easy to use).
I do however wish they had a better mount bracket for the unit. They include a mount bracket when you buy the 660 but it is poor quality and falls of the dashboard immediately. I just bought the, "Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for n?vi Series and StreetPilot C5XX Series GPS Navigators (C530, C550, and C580)" online today and hope that this will fix the situation. Its not very attractive (looks like a deformed frisbee) but heck, you cant have it all!
But I am pleased with this unit. The other Nuvi's (before and after the 660) dont have the high rating and large reviewer base. It go's to show you, just because something is new doesnt mean it is better. Here is a classic example of a older model working better than the newer ones.
Customer Review: My best purchase at Amazon Summary: 5 StarsSimply put this is the most satisfying product I got from Amazon. Never failed to get me to a location, love this product. The only problem I have seen with it is the FM transmitter which works only if it is close to the car antenna, not a huge problem though as I can always play it on speaker mode which is pretty decent.
Really sad that Garmin has stopped support for this product.
Customer Review: Very, Very nice Summary: 5 StarsI love it,, we took a long trip right after we received it,, put in a lot of stops and detours,, it never missed a beat... highly recomended..
Customer Review: Excellenet Summary: 5 StarsMy husband loves this one. He hates listening to the radio because of the commercials, so he downloaded songs and plays them thru the radio with no interruptions. He also hooks up his cell and uses it that way and talks and listens thru the speakers
