Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin nüvi 370 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: Don't know I lived without it. Summary: 5 Stars
Had been waiting for a device with both North America and Europe preloaded. Was partial to the Garmin interface as I had become used to it through a number of Avis rentals. When Garmin released the -x70 models, I moved out quickly. The 370 had all the features I was looking for - and is very portable. That last feature was very important since twice over the past few years, I parked our rental on some back street in Europe and then spent hours trying to find it.
Am I happy with the 370? Absolutely! Mounting is straightforward and strong. Audio and video are both great. Alerts are timely and succinct. Very accurate. Was visiting a firm in Florida a few weeks back. Followed one of their reps to the plant, but since I had to return there the next day, I saved the plant's location - just used the 'save current location' feature. The next day the 370 got me back to the same parking space! The user interface is intuitive - and eventhough the manual is rather thick, I have yet to open it. The traffic monitor has already gotten me around a number of major snarls.
Will be vacationing in Germany and Austria in the fall. Programmed our hotels, etc into the 370 - no problems whatever. Now the wife can enjoy the scenery while we blast along the Autobahn rather than constantly having to stay glued to the roadmap. And, yes, I've used it on long walks. Works great there, too. Very light and long battery life.
As I said, I don't know how I lived without it.
Customer Review: Great GPS Unit Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased this item to replace an older Street Pilot, one of the best upgrades dollar for dollar I've made. The unit responds well to every condition I have experienced thus far. On start up it acquires satellite lock within seconds, most of the time instantaneous. When I take a different route, it calculates the new route just as fast. I love downloading music to the unit and using my headphones as a portable mp3 player. I paid for the lifetime traffic updates seperately as well as speed and red light cameras and they work very well. I have paired my phone with the units' bluetooth and that is my only issue. I can hear callers great, but they don't hear me as well as I would like. Still, not having to fumble for the phone to answer a call while driving is a big safety issue for me, turning down the radio volume is a minor tradeoff.
Setting up custom POI's and navigating thru the menu did require a learning curve as well as going back to the cd manual for direction. Downloading to the unit is easy once you've familiarized yourself, but it was not something I could do right out of the box. Also, having to pay for new maps is a bummer, but most of my traveling is within 100 miles so I feel comfortable depending on the current version. I believe because of the map detail, there should be little problem staying on track if new patterns are not recognized by this version when I take longer trips. All in all, I would highly recommend the unit.
Customer Review: Throw away your maps. Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using the Garmin Nuvi 370 GPS for 3 months. I have used it in Europe as well as in the US. The amount of information and assistance in getting from point A to point B and even using an intermediate stop is incredible. It is mostly intuitive as far as getting started, but it is a good idea to use the manual to ferret out some of its not too obvious features. It also suggests hotels in the areas you are traveling as well as restaurants and points of interest. I even found the phone number of an airport parkingf service that I needed to call after returning from a flight. I misplaced their actual business card during my trip!
There are various mounting options and here I would warn you about the options. The best way to mount this is with a non-slip bean bag type of mount availble for this model. It just sits on your dashboard. It is easy to hide when you are parking your car. There is no tell-tale windshield mount broadcasting "GPS INSIDE"! However, the bean bag mount takes a different mounting base than what is supplied in the Nuvi 370 box. It will take another $60 bucks to get the right mount and the non skid bean bag. I think it is worth it, but it was a nuisance figuring it out. Be very careful in reading the descriptions of the accessories. Be absolutely sure the accessory you are looking for fits the Nuvi 370.
Other than that- no complaints. I just bought one as a gift for a close friend too.
Customer Review: Beware of Electro Biz Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered the Garmin 370 through Amazon purchased from Electro Biz. The unit arrived in two days which was great.. When I tried to register the unit with Garmin, I could not do it because it was already registered. The Garmin 370 was a reconditioned unit sold as a new unit. I sent an e-mail through Amazon to Electro Biz about the problem. By e-mail, Electro Biz assured me the unit was new and that they had sent the serial number to Garmin to start my warranty. They said if I gave them my unit's serial number, they would fix the problem. Two days later I still could not register my unit. I contacted Garmin and was told the unit was a reconditioned unit and only individuals can register the units, not companies that sell them. If I sent Garmin a sales receipt, they could fix the registration so I could register the unit; however, the fact was that the unit was NOT new but reconditioned. I again contacted Amazon and sent an e-mail through Amazon to Electro Biz about the problem. Electro Biz responded that Garmin's information was false and they could fix the serial number problem with Garmin so I could register on line. That was all they could do or I could send the unit back. I was not offered a new unit. I again contacted Garmin and was told the unit was reconditioned and put back into service Nov.8. I have informed Electro Biz that I am returning the unit to them for a refund. Please BEWARE of items purchased from ELECTRO BIZ.
Customer Review: Outstanding GPS in Switzerland and Italy. Summary: 5 Stars
I got the 370 Garmin Nuvi 370 Pocket Vehicle GPS Navigator and Personal Travel Assistant with European Maps because I wanted the European database for our upcoming trip. I have used 3 different GPS receivers in the past and the 370 is, by far, the best. I especially liked the ability to use the European "zip" codes to insert addresses. This cuts down the number of key strokes you need to input an address.
The unit will take you on the shortest route even over dirt roads. We traveled several in Italy. I thought this quit unique.
The 370 announces the street name at each turn. It does not speak German or Italian correctly. That is to say if you have selected English for the 370 to use it will speak the street name with no accent and as a word written in English and not the native language.
What I loved the most was the ability to drop a way-point at each of our Hotels or Villas. We could then roam around during our day trips and at the push of an icon on the screen be given the most direct way back to our "home".
Having the unit battery power is very useful. Short trips don't require the power cable hookup. This allows for the swift removal of the unit at parking lots etc.
Satellite lock-on was rapid. We only lost satellite lock when in a tunnel.
