Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin nüvi 265/265T 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with TrafficCustomer Review: Great unit Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this for the hubby for Christmas. Great GPS unit for the car. I've used handheld Garmins for years for geocaching and find them the most intuitive of all the brands out there.
I am amazed at the speed and accuracy of this unit, especially considering I live in a rather "removed" region in Oregon. I've tried to confuse the unit by driving opposite of what it tells me, and this thing reconfigures a new route in seconds! And it even includes streets that I wouldn't find on MapQuest or GoogleMaps. Using the GPS is also safer than trying to drive and read a printout from some online or paper map.
I opted for the smaller screen version as I didn't want something that looked like a TV sitting on the dash. It's still easy to see and the voice commands are easy to follow, so you really don't need to look at the unit that often. The bluetooth is another bonus and works great - Oregon just went "hands-free" for cell phone use.
Another plus for this unit was the fact that the GPS not only shows what street you will turn on, but says the actual street name. I noticed some models don't do this - they say turn right in a 1/4 mile - well, what if there are 2 rights in 1/4 mile, which one are you supposed to take?? And unless you look at your odometer, how far is 1/4 mile??
Anyhoo. I would strongly recommend this product. Go Garmin!
Customer Review: No problems. It just works. Summary: 5 Stars
I decided to purchase a new portable Nav system planning to get a lifetime maps option after being frustrated by the battery life and the map upgrade costs on my Tom Tom.
After using this system for a few months I have to say it's perfect for my needs (I use it for business travel and vacation travel). In particular I like the "RoadTrip" Software you can download for free from the Garmin website that works with this unit. That software allows you to identify points of interest and add them to your address book on the Nuvi. This allows me to find restaurants, hotels, points of interest etc on-line read reviews on tripadvisor and other places and load them right into the Garmin.
The only problem I had with the unit is that it twice "lost" my voice setting. The first time it changed to Africanner or something and the second time it lost the TTS (which is what allows it to say the street names instead of just turn left).
Pros:
1. Good battery life
2. Great PC and MAC integration.
3. Bluetooth is nice as it gives you a wireless option without a headset.
4. Fast satellite acquisition
Cons:
1. Occasionally loses settings.
Overall I highly recommend this unit. I am not the least bit disappointed with it.
Customer Review: Ok, but could be better... Summary: 2 Stars
I am someone that gets lost crossing the street and have wasted many hours and dollars on gas money trying to find my way, so when I bought a GPS I thought that it would solve these problems somewhat. This product, however, has the annoying ability to get me even further lost and, like others on here have said, gives me weird directions. If I try to take a highway instead of a back alley it gets confused. One time I was on the highway and it thought I was on a city road. Another time I was standing right outside of a house and I put the address in my gps. It told me I was a couple miles away yet.
It is a good device if you have a good idea of where you want to go, but don't rely on it too much. The points of interest are unbelievably out of date and there is no way to delete points of interest or roads that don't exist, which I realize is probably true of most GPS devices. I even e-mailed Garmin and told them about these issues, to which they offered almost no support and told me that I should e-mail THEM the errors so they can make the next version more accurate. Well what am I supposed to do with my one hundred some dollar piece of junk? I don't want to pay another hundred or so dollars for the next upgrade. The 255WT had the same problem, needless to say I am done with Garmin.
Customer Review: Okay for the money - some minor flaws Summary: 4 Stars
This is the first GPS unit I have owned, and the weekend before I decided to purchase it, the entire clinical team was gifted with this from the administration. I have been satisfied except for a few flaws which I'll explain.
The unit doesn't hold a charge for long. While I have no problem charging this every day, I am disappointed with this issue. I don't think this is specific to my unit as 60 different people are having the same problem.
I wish I had more choices in terms of voices. I picked Australian English (Karen) as she is the easiest to understand. The American voices are annoying and sound like they've sucked on too much helium.
The GPS does not provide the most direct route, often times making the distance much further than necessary. I am not talking about the little shortcuts known only to people who live in the neighborhood, rather, there have been many occasions where the GPS had many of us traveling five miles out of the way - not such a direct route.
I can't compare my experience to any other GPS models as I am new to owning a GPS, however, I wish these small issues didn't exist. That said, this would not prevent me from recommending this specific GPS to friends or associates.
Customer Review: Excellent budget GPS Summary: 5 Stars
We had purchased this GPS a year ago and it's a basic GPS with a great feature, the Traffic notification/detour capability.
Few days ago, we took a trip into Boston, about 50 minutes drive with no traffic. Checking the Google map traffic feature showed very heavy traffic on Rt93 N where it branched off from Rt 95 as well as the lower part of the Southeast Expressway (Rt 3).
When programmed for Chinatown as the destination, the GPS reported no traffic on route. I though something must be wrong. We then looked at the detailed route and saw it took some local streets and bypassed the heaviest section of Rt93 and got us back on to Southeast Expressway north of the congestion.
Even though about 1/4 of the drive was local street, the detour took an extra 10 minutes compare to a no traffic highway drive. When we drove over Rt93 at speed, we looked down and saw bumper to bumper traffic as far as we could see.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. I would prefer no one buys this GPS because it would put more people on the same road I took.
Aside from that, it does what it's asked and have no problems so far. It's a great price for a simple GPS with a great feature.
