Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin nüvi 265/265T 3.5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with TrafficCustomer Review: Absolutely worth every penny. Summary: 5 Stars
I'm living in the NYC Area. Commuting from Queens to Stony Brook, Long Island 3-4 times per week.
Traffic in NYC is a total bear, and no service is perfect, but this GPS has saved my butt MANY times, definitely enough to impress me, and definitely enough to justify the price. It gives you the option to re-route around traffic. Between this, 1010 WINS, and Navteq's [...], I'm about as prepared as anyone can be w/o a real-time satellite image.
Skip the bells and whistles. It's a great little unit and has everything you need.
Bluetooth works great. I drive a pickup that has a lot of road/wind/misc noise on the highway, but people can still hear me on the GPS speakerphone via bluetooth.
The traffic delays are not accurate, but you can just multiply everything times 5. If it says 1 minute delay, 5 minutes, etc. It's new york.
now if it could just get me out of those tickets....

Update: I've downloaded a database with red-light cameras to this unit. It has saved me at least 3 times for speed and red-light cams. You can do that with just about any unit, though.
Customer Review: Great unit & it tracks my mileage for tax writeoffs. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great unit. I had a Garmin before and that's why I chose to go with another Garmin unit. I love the interface and it just works.
You can download "Ecoroute" from Garmin's and install it into your GPS unit for free. The Ecoroute software tracks your mileage (for business or tax reasons) and estimates your fuel expenses based upon your input of MPGs. **NOTE** For it to track your mileage from location to location, you have to input your destination.
I agree with another poster about the traffic not being updated as often as would be nice. I live just outside Los Angeles and I have enough traffic that I have to deal with. It's great as an added bonus but having more constant updates would be great.
And in response to "Jonny", yes it DOES give you the mileage to your next destination. You just have to press on the section that shows your current speed and there it has many things you can view. In the top right it will show you the entire mileage to your destination. If you couldn't find it, I don't blame you. But saying that you called their tech support and they told you that it can't be done is just laughable.
Customer Review: Traffic information is useless (in Seattle) Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this unit to replace my 3 year old Garmin Nuvi GPS. I was excited about the traffic support and looking forward to the improvements that I expected to be made over the 3 years. However, I was quite disappointed - traffic information in Seattle was completely useless. I have driven at 70 mph through "red" traffic on the device, and I have driven past a traffic jam that had been stopped due to an accident for over an hour that was not shown on the device. And on one occasion the unit was not showing any traffic at all for over 30 minutes. On top of all of this the unit has glitched a number of times, displaying Chinese characters for a listing, or speaking with a completely garbled voice ("fixed" by restarting).
The other features of the unit worked pretty much as expected. The speed of searching the listings was quite slow, seemed like it was slower than my old unit.
I am returning this unit, I'll probably still buy a Garmin, but I won't pay for traffic support. Hopefully the traffic accuracy is better in other areas, that seems to be a really helpful feature, especially when alternative routes are available.
Customer Review: It's okay, but... Summary: 3 Stars
To be honest, I really haven't had a chance to put this Garmin 265 through the paces I think it needs to really prove itself.
So far, it's been rather frustrating that it calculates a route and if one doesn't follow it exactly (like, say, deciding to take another freeway from the one the Garmin thinks you should), that when it recalculates, the unit tries to get you back onto ITS originally calculated route.
Well, that shouldn't happen. It should recalculate based on the freeway you're on (in my opinion). If there is a way to tell it to do this, or NOT stick with its original route, I haven't found it. Anybody know?
The above examples are, of course, testing the GPS while going to places I've already been. I would imagine that I will think it will work splendidly if it's telling me to find a place that is new to me, because I won't know any different route.
I'm planning to take it to Philadelphia and Washington DC and work in its pedestrian mode. Might try to update this review after those trips.
I know it's not much help to anyone, but I'm finding my purchase to be just okay at the moment.
Customer Review: Excellent portable GPS; 5th star for the Amazon price Summary: 5 Stars
The Garmin Nuvi 265T (with discounts offered when we bought it) is a great value, and offers all the essentials for a basic, truly portable, GPS. The bonus of prepaid lifetime access to basic traffic alerts is a welcome extra. The "small" screen size is more than compensated for by its ease of portability and mounting for use. The Bluetooth capability is also very good, apparently, though we have no use for it.
The Garmin online support, .pdf manuals, and wide-ranging downloadable maps is outstanding, and serves both Mac and Windows owners well and essentially equally. Updates at this time appear to be readily available for both platforms and include updated firmware for the model owned.
We were pleasantly surprised to get an included update of N. American maps if downloaded within 30 days-- more than fair. Paid updates are also reasonable in price, in contrast to Toyota's charge of $250, the last I checked, for an new DVD, updated every 3, years for Toyota factory installed GPSs.
Finally, thank you, Garmin, for sponsoring a world class bicycle racing team.
