Customer Review: A great, affordable GPS unit
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using the Nuvi 260 for about a month now. I am extremely pleased with it. Before purchasing, I was looking for a unit that was easy to use, had text-to-speech (TTS) capability (would say the street names, etc.) and had easy to use/find Points of Interest.

This unit has all that and the maps are extremely easy to read. We have not had any errors with bad directions, etc.. Over the past month, we have used it even if we knew the directions to our destination, just to test out the route it gave. Sometimes, we chose a different route based on known traffic patterns, etc., but the routes it gave were reasonable. I was impressed that a recently built bypass was recognized in the maps.

As for ease of use, we literally took this unit out of the box and started to use it. All of the controls are very easy to find/adjust and the battery keeps its charge for a respectable amount of time.

I do wish it came with an AC adapter, but if you are looking for an affordable, easy to use, up-to-date GPS unit with a respectable number of features, this is a great little unit.

**Amazon order note: Although we ordered a Nuvi 260 and the invoice and even the BOX said we received a 260, the unit we originally received was a Nuvi 250. It was only when we were trying to listen to the TTS function that we realized we had the wrong unit. The 250 does not have TTS. Actually, this is the only reason we chose the 260 over the 250.

At any rate, Amazon replaced the unit and I had the new one in my hands within 5 business days. Just make sure you look at the unit and the box to make sure you get the unit that you ordered!!

Customer Review: Buy This Now
Summary: 5 Stars

I spent months reviewing all gps on the internet and made my choice to purchase this Nuvi 260, and purchase it from the Amazon site. The price was excellent, fifty dollars less than the big box retailers with their holiday pricing.

I opend the box, turned it on and acquired the satilites in my living room. After reading the manual, I reviewd the tool box option and the help option on the unit. I did not have any questions, pretty self explanitory. Really easy to use. . When I discussed it with my wife,he said' another gadget', go aheasd and buy it if you think you need it. Now she will take the unit is she is going somewhere, and destinations are a snap to enter. We have the garmin friction mount, so it is just pickup the complete package, plug it in and go.
It keeps a three hour charge, but keep it plugged in and you are always ready to go. I am very satisfied with the gps. It keeps me updated, the verbal calling out of streets and turn directions is excellent. Like most gps', you might know a short cut somewhere and the unit does not, but it will get you there, if you go your way, it will reroute you from your current area. The only down side is it only has one stop point.\
I purchased an adapter for home at Amazon (agan best price) , so I can charge the unit at home, and plan my route. I use an internet map solution to plan the route, then enter the information into the 260, and off I go. No more maps nor or pieces of paper, which I had to shuffle and try to read while driving. Is an excellenbt unit, makes you feel more secure while driving in an unknown area. Do not hesitate to purchase this one.

Customer Review: Not Happy

I purchased this item after much research and discussion with others who own GPS products. I know this is not rocket science but I wanted to make sure I had what I needed for an upcoming trip to Atlanta. I received the item timely through Amazon and quickly wanted to test it out so I could see if it could get me home and around my hometown. It does work right out the box with the car adapter. The Garmin was unable to get me home without taking me about 3 miles out of the way. It did not matter if I used shortest distance or fastest distance. I was literally sitting at a traffic light which is yards from my home and I should take a left. This Garmin told me to take a right instead. Right does not get me home without going full circle. I laughed said no way and took the left. I decided to see how it would get me to a local mall. Out of my drive way it never told me to take a right. It for some reason never picked that up. It never picked up a major street that has been around forever. The street it announced was there but no way could I get to the mall without getting onto the other street. The return trip also did not give the name of the major street. It took me to a side street to my home never showing the major street. I have lived at this location a very long time and no way can you get to my house without the major street because the side street the Garmin recognized intersects with the side street. Needless to say, I sent it back because I could not trust this GPS at home I certainly was not going to trust it in Atlanta. I bought something else and it got me home the first day I used it.

Customer Review: Garmin Nuvi 260 is a great GPS
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't say enough good things about this product. I have used it several times and it hasn't steered me wrong yet. I did a lot of research before buying the Nuvi 260 by reading numerous product reviews and speaking directly to a Garmin representative who was so very helpful because I was comparing four other models. She told me the 260 was the same as the 350 without bluetooth, mp3 player and a couple of other bells and whistles I don't need. The 260 is very easy to operate and although there is not a operating manual per se, the touch screen is pretty self-explanatory. I am electronically challenged sometimes, but I haven't had any problems with this one.

After my brother used mine, he immediately ordered one from Amazon.com just before he left for a trip from Tennessee to Miami, FL and he just loved it. The thing I like most is that the street names are pronounced for you instead of just saying "turn right in 500 ft." It says "in 500 feet, turn right on Walnut St." I hardly ever have to look at the GPS, just listen for directions.

The one and only complaint I have is that it doesn't come boxed with a home charger, but they are very cheap to purchase and so far I haven't felt the need to get one since it operates so well with the adapter for your vehicle.

Another thing I like about it is, for instance if I wanted to drive a state highway instead of the recommended interstate route, it will recalculate and direct you on the state highway. I just love this Garmin unit and if something happens to it, I will get another 260.

Customer Review: Everything you need, and nothing you don't need....
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered the Garmin nuvi 260 before taking a trip to Minnesota, where I knew I'd be traveling by car from point to point, often with little notice of my next destination, so it seemed time to rely on something besides map sites on the web. The 260 gives very good audible directions, has a clear map display, and a real bonus, helped me find a restaurant to host a family dinner on short notice in a location central to everyone. It also helped me find the gas station closest to the airport to refuel the rental car before turning it in. I probably saved $40 in gas over three days thanks to the nuvi. This model includes Canada, which will come in handy as I live in the Northeast. Also, an important note: After much hemming and hawing over how to mount the nuvi, I decided to purchase it with only the standard mount. It received the satellite signal very well while simply perched in my cupholder! You absolutely do not need to have constant access to the screen. In this way, no mounting is necessary AT ALL. This resolves the break-in risk, the beanbag vs.windshield mount question, and allow me to drive undistracted by the screen. A friendly voice simply told me when to turn (with way more warning than my husband ever gives). At stoplights I could check the map very easily. I strongly recommend this lower distraction method! Then just stow the nuvi and cord in the glove box every time you get out of the car. No suction cup, no beanbag, no adhesive. The larger screen size seems silly given that the device rides in my cupholder, and I'm relieved I didn't get it.
