Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin StreetPilot c580 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with MSN DirectCustomer Review: Nice GPS Summary: 4 Stars
I found creating a playlist for music a hassle. You would have to use a music program to create it (e.g. Windows Media Player), but takes steps to create it and transfer to the Garmin. Why doesn't Garmin give free user-friendly music program specifically for their device? I like using spiral frog and it won't allow you to transfer to the Garmin device. Spiral frog limits devices that will transfer their music to brand devices (Garmin is not one of them). The MSN Direct Receiver worked once and after that it died. It would only show traffic info. ONLY and antenna stopped working for all other contents. I had to return it to Garmin Corp. and ship for $8 to receive a new one from them. So basically it was an additional cost for that receiver. Overall a nice device for my husband (he's not into gadgets, but I think this might be helpful for him somewhere/sometime). I have the Nuvi 760 that works w/ MSN fine. As of 2009, Spiral Frog website no longer exist - something about them not able to pay their lender money back for setting up Spiral Frog business.
Customer Review: 150$ Well worth Every Penny! Summary: 4 Stars
Now at the low cost of 150$ which includes the latest map update from Garmin, free downloadable extras from Garmin's website when you register. Anti-theft protection, MP3 Player, Text to speech, a free year of MSN Direct service (Which has provided accurate movie listings and traffic information, gas prices can sometimes be outdated)as well as accurate directions.
My few slight gripes-
POI database is not as updated and complete as I'd like it to be, but you can save many custom locations in your favorite file
One way streets, I live in Milwaukee, a medium sized city, so you'd think the information in the newest downloadable maps would be updated and complete, not the case! Often when I'm downtown the unit tells me to turn the wrong way on a one way street. I know this is njot necessarily Garmin's fault, but the map software company's, however if Garmin uses them they should ensure they are getting the most up-dated and accurate maps.
Overall for the low price an amazing unit!
Customer Review: Garmin Street Pilot Portable Navigator with MSN direct Summary: 5 Stars
This is the my first GPS unit. So I don't know what is great and what should or should not be. Overall, I am pleased with the unit. It was easy to setup and use. The maps are all preloaded which is good. The point of interest are great. I can find anything I want and get easy directions to their location. I can add my favorites as well. If I miss a turn it will recalculate the trip automatically. I have not used the bluetooth feature but plan to. The MSN direct is easy to use as well. The service will direct your route of travel around traffic. The gas listing I have found very useful. The turn by turn is great, it tells you the street name and therefore you do not have to take your eyes off the road or guess which street if there are many close together. I could not understand the name of some streets because the pronounciation was flawed and sometimes the voice says road or place instead of street and that could be a problem down the road when I really don't know where I am going. But so far it has been a okay.

MORE EDIT:
ANY SD card causes the blinking problem, but the 2GB card does it less often.
As a basic GPS, 5 stars
Blue Tooth is erratic and MSN Direct radio thing is still totally useless.
EDIT:
Many of the issues seem to be caused by using an 8GB SDHC card. The software seems to have issues trying to read it. The flashing went away once I removed the card. I am going to replace it with a 2GB SD card. MSN direct is still worthless and the Bluetooth is kinda noisy on the other end.
The GPS works well except it sometimes flashes BRIGHT white. DANGEROUS at night. The MP3 player is OK, but it is no iPod and it has issues with 8GB SD cards. It seems to max out at 500 songs no matter how much space you have. MSN Direct Traffic is WORTHLESS. It hardly ever gets a signal on the Baltimore Beltway, let alone out in the country. The BlueTooth works OK, but sometimes needs a couple tries to sync up. Can't say if it is the GPS or the phone.
Mine is going back.
Customer Review: Great product -- recommended Summary: 4 Stars
The C580 is easy to use, full of features navigation system. It is accurate and finds the fastest route to every destination. The addition of the MSN traffic reports allow to avoid the congested roads and select less travel routes (although many times with many stop lights). The verbal directions is very useful when driving. I highly recommend this unit.
On the downside, at times (especially after parking in doors), it takes long time to acquire the satellites read (sometimes up to 5 minutes).
MSN traffic reports does not get the updates fast enough when traveling away from home, which makes this feature useless when traveling long distances.
The build-in MP3 has a flat metallic sound, unless it is connected to the car stereo, ignore this option.
The POI database is out of date; for example, on a last trip, many restaurants in the database were out of business. Therefore, call ahead to make sure the establishment is still around.
