Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin StreetPilot c530 3.5-Inch Portable GPS NavigatorCustomer Review: Works great with some caveats Summary: 4 Stars
This was a refurbished unit which made for a nice cost savings. I had assumed that it would have the current maps installed, which was not the case. My area (Phoenix) has had a fair amount of growth in recent years and I've found numerous instances where businesses and addresses that were put in two years ago are not in the database. It's a little frustrating to be faced with having to buy an expensive update for what should be a new/current system.
Operation wise the unit works fairly well. Going through a complex freeway/overpass the system will may give an accurate instruction for an exit to take but too late to actually take it. It's not readily easy to put in and label a current waypoint - one has to provide a street address which may not be readily available.
All in all it's a decent system that would be improved by having a switchable ETA/miles to destination option, and an altitude readout.
Customer Review: Easy Unit To Use Summary: 5 Stars
Unit worked right out of the box. Manual is not needed much. I downloaded a new vehicle icon from Garmins web site, and the unit lost the file that lets it find the map. Contacted Garmin, and one of the software techs sent a file to my C530 via my computer and it now works. In a way, i'm glad it happened to me, because I now understand how to fix it if it looses this file.
I tried a C330, and it was nice, but with the C530 you can enter a telephone number in your saved sites, etc. It has a brighter screen, and the audio seems to be a little bit louder.
Now sure why the case has the cut out for the mount in the rear unless your going to use it on battery power only.
This is so easy to use. I find myself looking up address in the house, etc. By the way, the receiver is very good (keeps a signal while in my home, and it acquires a signal in approx. 10 seconds).
Customer Review: Great GPS for the money Summary: 4 Stars
First: I want to thank Amazon for their good price and fast delivery!
Second: I want to compliment Garmin for standing behind their product and very good tech service.
Review: The first c530 unit was defective (wouldn't acuire satellite) Called customer service (got right through & actually talked to a person!)
Customer rep talked me through resetting the unit to no avail. Sent unit back to Garmin (UPS) and within 5 days had a new working unit up and going. This unit is easy to use right out of the box. I'm not computer friendly! but found this very user friendly. I've only had this unit 1 wk. but have found it very helpful in finding addresses. I am looking forward to useing this unit when we go on vacation to Branson in about a week so I will know better how the c530 works on the long haul!
I don't believe that you can find a better entry level GPS unit for the money.
Customer Review: great toy for the road Summary: 5 Stars
The Garmin c530 is a great item to have on the road. It took us a little while to learn how it works and to get through the menus and sub-menus, but we figured it out on a long road trip and it is great! You can find the nearest rest stop up the road, the nearest gas station or restaurant, and it will even tell you where the KOAs and WalMarts are on your route if you are so inclined. As you go down the road, it will tell you about roadside attractions. It starts up fast and locks onto the satellites very quickly, even in downtown areas with lots of tall buildings. We are having a lot of fun with it and it is worth every penny we spent on it. By the way, we bought ours for $199 at the Cabela's in Sidney NE. But if you can get it for $220 - $230 it is still a bargain. No need to get anything more commplex than the c530. Everything else is just bells and whistles. Get the c530. You'll like it.
Customer Review: Good, as expected but... Summary: 4 Stars
Like most of the people who wrote reviews over here, I also did a lot of research before buying the c530. The device is VERY easy to use, almost boring, I am kind of a tech geek and I would love to have something complicated to explore, you don't even need to read the manual (which is only like 40 pages anyways). The navigation is as expected from a device, it does bring to your location (if you have no clue how to get there) but sometimes there are better ways to reach your destination. Other than that, it does what it supposed to do, it takes a little time to understand when you really have to turn but overall it is a piece of cake. The screen visibility (readability), ease of use, reception, battery life, all great. The road computer is cool (average speed, maximum speed etc). Finally, it is a great toy that does the job very well but if you really wanna play with it, go for higher models..
