Customer Review: Garmin 2008 update
Summary: 1 Stars

This is a complete waste of your money. As far as I can tell there has been no updates to the map since last year. On a recent trip to the Gulf Shores Alabama area, we discovered that none of the highways have been updated even though road changes have been completed for over three years. Also, many of the addresses in the Gulf Shores Alabama area were at least three blocks off and some were on the wrong side of the road. Pensacola, FL was also very inaccurate and some major streets were not even listed. Even our own home in Arkansas is listed on the wrong side of the street. A total waste of $70.00. Garmin should be ashamed of puting such a lousy product on the market.

Customer Review: Should I upgrade the map?
Summary: 3 Stars

Yes! The navi is only as good as the map it's running on. Countless changes are applied b/w updates and the map is always steadily improving. That said your choice of whether or not to upgrade can depend largely on the amount of growth in the places you drive/will drive. As for roads you can reasonably expect Interstate/Highways to be current up to 1-2 years while residential roads will take longer to get added. If updated POI data is important to you then you'd certainly benefit since this data changes a ton. If you're wondering about a specific road check an online map and see if exists. If it does there's a good probability it'll be in your map update as well.

Customer Review: Garmin Map Update City Navigator 2008
Summary: 5 Stars

I recommend this update for portable GPS units such as our Garmin Nuvi 660. We are very happy with our unit. It's easy to use and makes our travels much less stressful. We find addresses, restaurants, hotels/motels, even shopping, all with ease. So keeping the maps up to date are important. The updated map purchase was made through Amazon when we discovered the electronics store we planned to purchase the update from had suddenly increased their price by $20.00!!! I started searching online and discovered it at Amazon for almost $20.00 less than the ORIGIONAL price at that store. Amazon's price was cheaper than buying straight from Garmin too. Thanks Amazon!!!

I've bought Garmin products for about 10 years this 2008 update may be going back to Amazon. I'm dissapointed that the buyers from Amazon would sell this. Amazon pull this off your shelves, or loose more loyal customers. Save your $60, buy something usefull like a copy of Longitude, a sextant and a good watch.
If you have ever been frustrated by the layout of Washington DC, there is reason, after the White House was burned in 1812, the city planners set up the streets so that any invading army would take the most circuitous route and not arrive at the White House until a GPS could be invented.
I can only hope that the Clintons are using the 2008 update.

Customer Review: Garmin map "updates" are incredibly outdated from time of purchase
Summary: 1 Stars

It should be a crime to sell these map "updates" for $80. They are at least a year outdated from the release date and can't find some places that have been around since the mid 1990s. Recently I tried to type in a HIGH SCHOOL and it had no idea that the school even existed. I tried to type the address of the school but the street didn't exist. Also, I typed in the name of a gym and it directed me to a grocery store which was half of a mile away (kind of the opposite of my intentions eh, Garmin?). I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of my money again for these junk maps. Might as well purchase a new GPS for $100 and get a free update of maps.
