Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin GSC 10 Speed/Cadence Bike SensorCustomer Review: Easy way to improve cycling feedback Summary: 5 Stars
I had the FR305 for a few months before getting this sensor and was happy with the feedback it was giving me. However, there were times when I would lose a signal temporarily (generally in heavily wooded areas and have it guess at my speed etc. But now I am able to get precise and real time speed on my rides and logs. Also, I now have cadence to review in the garmin ride software. This sensor has helped me analysis how I can improve my gearing in different areas of my ride to optimize my work. I rarely push gears that are too big or spin out in gears that are too small. Plus, amazon sells it for a LOT less!
Customer Review: Great product, confusing packaging if you have a Forerunner 305 Summary: 4 Stars
The handlebar mount and cadence and speed sensors went on quickly and worked flawlessly. However, when I first received the package in the mail, I was concerned I had ordered the wrong item. I have a Forerunner 305 wrist-mounted GPS, and all of the packaging for this product references the Edge GPS sensor, so I didn't know whether or not this would even work with the Forerunner. There are very slight differences in navigating the menus to set up the cadence sensor between the Forerunner and the Edge, but the cadence sensor does indeed work very well with the Forerunner, so Forerunner owners order without fear!
Customer Review: Design could be improved Summary: 3 Stars
The design could be improved upon as you need to have a magnet on both the crank arm and the spoke within 5mm of the sensor. This makes id difficult and may require some minor modifications on some bicycles (I needed to add a spacer between the crank arm and the magnet). Too much tilt towards the crank, risks having the arm of the sensor being caught in the spokes after a large bump on the trails or raod. I have known of other people being able to purchase a larger magnet to the inside of the pedal screw which allows the sensor to be farther appart. Other than that, it works great with the Edge.
Customer Review: Very impressive for a Forerunner 305 Accessory Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to add on to my Forerunner 305 and I couldn't be more satisfied. It was a bit confusing to install, since the unit has a speed sensor for a GPS unit, but they don't explain why. I assume this was for indoor use. I will find out, this winter. I have a carbon fiber bike, so I was careful not to tighten it too much, and after about 200 miles with it, I have not made any adjustments. I works very well, and is great to keep track of your average cadence and review on a computer. I would recommend this for any cyclist. I will be buying another one for my indoor bike on the trainer.
Customer Review: Works as advertised! Summary: 5 Stars
This unit went on with ease and has worked without issue paired with my Edge 500 ever since. Installation was a breeze (how could it not be?) and it stays put where you place it.
My only suggestion would be to forget about the crank arm magnet this comes with and buy a 1/2" rare earth (neodymium) magnet that you can simply place against the inside pedal spindle (it will stick and stay, don't worry.) This will allow you to have a very stealthy cadence setup that will stay put and work flawlessly. Check ebay for these magnets, they can be had for a couple of dollars for a stack of 10.
