Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin GPS III Waterproof Hiking GPSCustomer Review: Large enough for dash, small enough for pack Summary: 5 Stars
This unit is the perfect size for double duty as a dash board unit and hiking companion. This is my third Garmin unit and first with a basemap. The base map makes it much more useful. Cons: Scrolling the base map can be time consuming. You will have to wait while map is loaded one screen full at a time. In a large city with lots of streets this can be frustrating. Editing routes is very tedious and usually requires resorting to manual to remember process.
Customer Review: Good news Bad news Summary: 4 Stars
The Garmin III+ does everything the ads say it will and It's fairly easy to use. Some book work is needed ,but it's fun stuff. If you like maps and navigating you would have to look pretty hard to do better than this model. Now the bad. The software you might have to buy is way too expensive and the ads lead you to believe you get a external ant. You do not. It costs almost a hundred bucks and you need to have it to get the most from the III+ model.
Customer Review: The Only Way To Go Into Backcountry Summary: 4 Stars
I've used my GPS III+ for about six months now, taken it every where I've traveled or hiked. It's a great benefit to use with Delorme Topo Mapping software prior to trips where I upload waypoints and points of interest. I always know where springs, trails, lakes and landmarks are. Upon returning I download tracbacks, navigate distance and print my trips and routes for later reference. Can't be without now. Greatly recommended.
Customer Review: The Best GPS to get !! Summary: 5 Stars

Customer Review: This is the one......... Summary: 5 Stars
to get if you need a GPS for hiking and in the car or just to find your way around the downtown. It is a bit heavy for backpacking but I leave home my flashlight because I GOT to have it. This unit actually helped us find our way out of the Utah desert after our group leaders got us a bit "off track" saving us an unnecessary night out with the scorpions. Highly recommend.
