Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin Forerunner 50 Water Resistant Running GPS With Heart Rate Monitor and Foot Pod

Customer Review: Great Garmin
Summary: 5 Stars

Very good product. The things I like best about this product are:
1. You don't have to charge the watch, like some other models
2. It isn't bulky, like some other models
3. The foot pod is great for measuring speed, cadence, and distance

The only cons I have are that the telemetry strap is not compatible with cardio machines in a gym that have heart rate monitors built into them (so you always have to bring the watch with you), and the software for viewing your comleted workouts is pretty bare bones. I am willing to bet that Garmin will roll out software upgrades in the future though.

Customer Review: Beware of the foot pod
Summary: 1 Stars

Initially, I was very impressed with the product. Once it is setup, data is automatically synchronized with the PC and the Garmin web site. The data presented was very useful for training. It worked as advertised, however, after about a week of running, the foot pod stopped working. Without the foot pod, it could no longer record my pace.

I returned it to get a replacement. Unfortunately, the same thing happened again. Perhaps the Foot Pod just needed a new battery, however, I am not going to try it again. I returned it for a second time and will get the Garmin 305. [...].

Customer Review: Nice Product, Poor Manual
Summary: 5 Stars

I love my Garmin Forerunner 50 now that I have finally figured it out. I did get very frustrated by the vague instruction booklet and still would not have figured it all out, had I not gotten tutored by another owner. The pedometer was very accurate, even without calibrating. My first run showed 2.35 miles on my Forerunner and my friend with a GPS came in at 2.40. The heart rate monitor works great and is comfortable. All in all this is a great motivator for someone who is just getting into a fitness routine and wants to track his/her progress. The download to the ANT stick works well.

Customer Review: Garmin 40 w/ Pedometer and Heart Monitor
Summary: 3 Stars

This product is very functional. It provides all of the basic information needed for running. Although the watch isn't very stylish, it is much more discrete than other similar products out there. The buttons don't work as well as my Timex watch and the screen is a little dim for my liking, but these don't detract too much from the value of the product. My largest complaint, though, is with the software. The ANT Agent has difficulty picking up the unit after I have stored information from my runs. I would suggest it to a budget conscious consumer, but not for more serious runners.

Customer Review: Garmin Forerunner 50
Summary: 4 Stars

I chose this watch so I could caculate the distance I was running without having to premeasure and area and so I knew the pace I was running inorder me to improve.

This a a great watch once are able to decipher the directions. The directions were very basic and were hard to follow. It took me quite awhile to get it set up. But once I did set the watch up it worked great and have enjoyed it thoroughly.

The size is a little big but not too big where it causes discomfort and the larger size makes it easy to read while you are excercising.
