Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin Forerunner 405 Wireless GPS-Enabled Sport Watch with USB ANT Stick and Heart Rate Monitor (Black)

Customer Review: I really wanted to love it but I couldn't.....
Summary: 2 Stars

I have returned this watch twice now. I want so badly to love it but there are some real problems with the watch. The touch bezel is way to sensitive and if you have even a little bit of sweat on your arm, its very difficult to operate. The 2 I've had have also frozen frequently requiring resets. It is very difficult to navigate at first although quite easy once you get used to it. The GPS was very accurate so that was great. I found this watch being more of a distraction while running than it was helpful as I was always looking down, concerned that the timer had stopped (which it had many times due to the bezel sensitivity) or that the watch had frozen. Maybe I'll try again in a few years.

Customer Review: What a training tool!
Summary: 5 Stars

After using this for running and biking I am really not sure how I did it before. Being able to analyze my workout on my computer and understanding exactly what my heart rate is doing during my intervals, long runs and tempo runs is amazing. Let alone the fact that this thing is pure motivation. No more saying "I did about 8 miles." The fudge factor is gone with this thing. And the price is amazing. I highly recommend! I bought the 405 instead of the 405 CX. I preferred the black to the blue. Really, I don't think there is a difference as long as you get the HRM. And, about half the price of the 410? This is a no brainer. Very, very happy with this purchase.

Customer Review: So far so good
Summary: 4 Stars

I got my 405 on July 29th 2010. So far I have used it 4 times. The menu on the garmin takes a little getting used to... but I will get used to it soon enough. The GPS is extremely accurate in measuring distance.

When I upload my data to the training center on my computer, I can see if I ran on the inside of the lap, and then on the outside for the second lap.

Using the Heart rate monitor has been ok for short runs (2-3 miles). It is slightly uncomfortable, but it is bearable for my short runs.

So far this product has been great. So fingers crossed, as I am currently training for a half-marathon and this device has been useful.

Customer Review: strap failure
Summary: 2 Stars

I owned the product for about a year and half when (in normal use) one of the straps completely snapped off the body of the device. This was caused by a failure of the internal plastic hinges that hold the strap to the device--they completely snapped in two. When I reported this to Garmin, they sent me a replacement strap, but this was of course completely useless, because there were no longer any hinges to attach the new strap to the device.

With the inability to re-attach the strap, the entire $300 device is now worthless. to me as a runner.

Because Garmin offers only a one-year warranty, I am apparently our of luck. Beware.

Customer Review: Awesome trainer
Summary: 5 Stars

I am super impressed with th Garmin 405. I have owned it now for several weeks and adore it. I owned a Garmin 305 before this and much prefer the 405. First of all the 305 had the tinniest heart rate, that i struggled to see while training. The 405 gives you the ability to customize three screens and thus I am able to make the heart rate as big as the whole screen. I also like the ability to customize the HR zones. It makes customizing it to you a piece of cake.
The watch syncs to my computer wirelessly and I like the ability to review my workouts afterward. The GPS also works great and the battery life is also good.
