Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin Dashboard Mount for StreetPilot c310, c320, c330 and c340 (010-10613-00)Customer Review: Dashboard bracket for Streetpilot c340 Summary: 4 Stars
My experience with the windshield suction mount which came with the c340 was not good for 2 reasons: (1) I already had a windshiled mount for my Treo, and visibility was noticeably reduced with 2 devices hanging from the glass, and (2) it did not keep its suction on the windshield, and took a few dives onto the floor of my car. I wrote to Garmin, which promptly replaced the windshield mount with a new one. In the meantime, I ordered this dash bracket, after having seen a friend's "sandbag" dash mount for another Garmin GPS device. I am very pleased with this product. It uses friction (not stick-um, like some reviews have erroneously said) discs to keep it settled on the dashboard. I like the low-profile look of the device on the dash instead of on the glass. It does not move around much at all, even on bumpy roads, so its security is much more predictable than the glass mount. It also has an integrated power cord, so you don't risk moving the device between cars without the cord.
Customer Review: At last! My Garmin stays put. Summary: 4 Stars
I am delighted with this product. The picture is not that clear, nor is the description. There is no suction cup anywhere--the bracket that comes with it slides into a locking mount in the center of the tripod base. Simply lay the assembly where you want it and it stays. Sudden stops, quick turns, nothing moves it. My dashboard is not at all level, and it never moves unless I move it. It is very easy to pick up the whole assembly and tuck it under your seat, leaving no visible evidence that it is in the car.
I purchased this after almost getting in an accident trying to catch my falling Garmin C-340 for the umpteenth time on a hot day, and my only regret it that I didn't buy it sooner. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because I have a minor problem with the power cord I can't seem to solve--it sometimes jiggles loose and the unit tries to convert to battery power, which requires driver input on the C-340.
Customer Review: What a lifesaver!! Summary: 5 Stars
After paying the price with the suction-cup attachments for a few years... I welcomed a change. This little device is worth every penny. My Garmin c340 stays put on my dashboard with no glue, Velcro or tape. You just place it on the dash and the weighted rubber pads use weight distribution to keep it in place. You could obviously slam your gas pedal to the floor and it will scoot forward an inch or two, but under normal realistic conditions it does not move. I love that I can take the whole thing (GPS & mount) with me inside rather than having to struggle snapping it off my windshield and leaving unsightly rings behind.
Thieves are now breaking into cars based on those rings because they know that a GPS will be waiting there most of the time. I read that on MSN a few days ago. This mount prevents that and does an amazing job! No suction rings on the windshield and no glue/tape mess on the dash.
I highly recommend this product.
Customer Review: It works... Summary: 3 Stars
I had to buy this product because the winshield mount that came with my GPS device are illegal in California. If this weren't so, I wouldn't use the tripod mount regularly. Maybe it's just my dash, but the tripod slips around quite easily, forcing me to reach over and turn the GPS face back towards my seat so I can see it, or even to prevent the unit from slipping off the dash.
It does seem that other reviewers aren't experiencing this, which leads me to believe it is, indeed, my dash (which is slanted), so it would be a good idea to take this into account before purchasing this item. In addition, the vent on my dash is positioned so that it is necessary that one of the "feet" of the tripod base must rest upon it in order for me to be able to see the screen, so that might also account for the slippage.
If I didn't occasionally take the unit into other cars I'd affix the tripod mount to the dash to solve this problem.
Customer Review: Product works great. Minor improvements would make it exceptional. Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered this because the suction cup mount that came with the unit rotted out. I know this isn't a rare problem because 3 of the 4 family members had that unit and all three did the same. The product works just as advertised. You can put it anywhere on your dashboard and it will stay there. If you are on a bumpy or brick type road the unit will eventually work it's way to the lower point on the dash which in my case is off the front. However, it takes a LOT of bumps to accomplish this and, therefore, moving it every once in a while keeps it on the dash. This is actually why I gave it 4 stars. I think that if they would had a sticky rubber material instead of the foam they use, it would cut down greatly on this issue. However, like I said before it's not a huge problem and it works much better than just a rubber GPS mat (used on the older GPS units before the navigation ones). I would recommend this product to everyone that had a GPS unit.
