We bought this dash mount as hubby has to go to CA on business trips & CA law does not allow anything mounted on the windshield. It's not that heavy, but it does hold firmly on the dashboard. We really like its portability and that it doesn't take a lot of room to pack. Also comes with the lighter charger which is great! Of course, since it's not permanent, it's been known to move around the dash whenever we do sharp turns. I think this is a great gadget! If only they have the same thing for the newer models. The new bluetooth-enabled GPS have ball mounts instead of bracket designs that the C340 has, and I'm not too keen on having my GPS bob up & down on bumps and dips like another reviewer said.Customer Review: Makes a good thing better

I love my Garmin GPS, but often I was unable to find a good place to mount it in my Camero, or for that matter in most of the 3 or 4 rentals I had used it in. The suction cup mout provided with the unit worked well where the ankle of the windshield was just right. I never found a spot on a dashboard where the suction device worked well, and the provided smooth mounting disk would not adhere to my textured dash.
Due to a crowded dash, or acutely angled windshield I sometimes had to mount (or prop)the unit in a spot inconvenient (and dangerous) to viewing.
The new mount has solved that problem for me. It works well and effortously, and so far it has worked in several vehicles.

We have a Garmin StreetPilot c330. Love the GPS unit; Hated the suction cup window mount. I used my original and 2 replacement suction mounts. Finally got to have the Friction Base. What a relief!!! Have had absolutely NO problem with it flying around in any of our 4 vehicles. Our GMC pickup has a very steep dash board and sometimes it will creep its way back a bit, and need to be reset minorly, but that's WAY better then having it fly off the windshield and land in my lap or bounce off the console as I'm driving down the road, which happened more than once. We really like this base a lot! It stays put very well. I would never, ever go back to the suction base. This is a great solution!Customer Review: product great

The Garmin Street Pilot came with a suction windshield attachment. The suction rarely held & the Garmin kept crashing down. I ordered the tripod holder that sits on the dash...so far it's been great. It's easy to use, very stable & doesn't leave marks...as does the window mount did. It's just too bad such a great product such as the Garmin sends a crappy mounting system...I was afraid with the crashing down it would break the GPS. I think they should send it with the dash mount or the option of choosing one. Also, with the dash mount it is easy to put away so people passing the vehicle won't suspect a GPS is hidden away as with the windown mount that usually is left on the window.Customer Review: Comes with everything but the GPS!

I wasn't sure exactly what comes with this Garmin dash mount. Did it have to be used along with the windshield mount that came with my GPS? If not, how would I charge the unit in my car? Good news! This dashboard mount includes everything you need as well as a permanently installed charging cord. I love my windshield mount and won't trade it for anything, but at least the GPS can be used in other cars now.
I agree with some of the other reviewers who say that the charging cord is very annoying if you choose not to plug it in. The cord just dangles around since it can't be removed from the mount. Oh well, at least I can't lose the cord :) So happy I got this item!!
