Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin Dashboard Mount for StreetPilot c310, c320, c330 and c340 (010-10613-00)Customer Review: You wouldn't think this concept would work, but it does...perfectly! Summary: 5 Stars
I have a Garmin StreetPilot C330 and had it mounted in the car with the suction-cup cradle that comes with it. To my annoyance the suction cup would lose its grip after a while and sooner if the temperature outside changed drastically.
I got so fed up with having to put the darn thing back up on the windshield the round marks it left there that I decided to research the alternatives. I hate buying after-market/third-party accessories for anything I own...mainly because they almost always fall short of my expectations. Hence it was only natural for me to try and find out what Garmin itself had to offer.
This Dash mount was the best logical solution right off the bat. I was a bit skeptical in its ability to hang onto the dash when making turns because the actual "legs" don't seem to have much of a grip when you inspect them closely. As it turns out, I was wrong.
I have had this Dash Mount in my fiancé's car for about a year now and it has worked flawlessly. Once you have it on the dash, you can rest-assured that it will NOT move regardless of how many sharp turns you take. Unless of course you pick it up and put it down in a different spot.
The quality of the product itself is top-notch and it is much more aesthetically pleasing than its suction-cupped counterpart. Additionally it is much easier to adjust the viewing angle of the C330 while it is in it. I personally think that Garmin should ship out all its GPS Navigation units with THIS mount instead of the usual suction-cupped ones.
For anyone who is considering or already owns a Garmin StreetPilot, I would strongly suggest getting this right away. Trust me, your experience with your GPS will be much smoother.
Customer Review: Why buy it? Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a Garmin c340 and heard about this mount. So I got one from Amazon. I liked the setup so much that I bought another GPS and mount for my brother. Many users wish it came with the GPS and gladly pay extra to get it. It has many things going for it that the window mount doesn't.
1. The GPS unit does not have to be removed from the mount every time
you exit the car. This saves wear on the delicate contact points
and reduces possibility of damage from the many mounts and dismounts.
2. Experience shows that with multiple drivers, units are often
improperly mounted, resulting in screen damage due to falling and
hitting the console. There have also been reports of drivers
losing control from trying to catch the falling unit.
3. By placing the entire unit/mount on the floor when leaving the
car, there's no telltale sign that you have a GPS. Police report
thieves casually walk down Mall parking lots looking for the empty
window mount, thus knowing which cars to look closer at.
4. The 3 legs of the spider mount are softly padded so as not to mar
or slip from wherever it's placed on the dash. Yet the mount is
flexible enough to allow it to be placed in a variety of positions
to accommodate different dash contours, drivers, and sun
conditions. The latter-sun conditions-can often make viewing the
screen a problem.
Get one...you won't be disappointed.
Customer Review: A big improvement over the original windshield mount Summary: 4 Stars
Compared to the windshield mount that came with my GPS, this dashboard mount was a big improvement.
1) This mount is really easy to put on and remove. Apparently, GPS mounts (even without the GPS units) make cars great targets for break-ins, and since there's no adhesive or suction cup, you just unplug the cigarette lighter, pick it up and go. Easy!
2) In really cold weather (below freezing), my windshield mount had trouble forming a seal with the windshield-- the windshield would freeze any moisture on the suction cup, and the cup couldn't grip the window after that. Cold weather doesn't affect this mount.
3) In hot and sunny weather, the windshield mount suction cup would start melting onto the windshield, and leave a black rubbery residue. Yuck. I actually haven't left this mount out in the sun yet, but it's so easy to take off your dashboard and out of direct sunlight that I probably won't ever find out.
4) This mount really stays put on your dashboard. I've got some odd lumps and curves in my dashboard, and this mount still holds tight to them, even through sharp corners.
Some small negatives:
1) As your driving, the GPS unit wiggles and vibrates a little more than with the windshield mount. It doesn't bother me, but it might bother someone else.
2) I'd guess that if your dashboard is dusty and dirty, the rubber feet on this mount will have trouble staying put. Wipe down your dashboard occassionally and you should be fine, though.
Customer Review: A worth deal Summary: 4 Stars
I have purchased this dashboard mount a year back and is satisfied with its capability of holding the bulky Garmin C340 GPS.
Pros:
1. Durability: it is durable and flexible enough to sustain the shocks after falling couple of times on a sharp turn/break. Hats off to those bulky models too, they are strong enough to survive such incidents.
2. Good grip: it holds onto the dashboard quite well as it has 3 supportive legs with good material beneath to hold onto dashboard.
3. Easy Installation/Placement: its easy to install the GPS with the mount. Just place over the dashboard and you are done. You can place whereever you want the position to be. While driving, you can easily hand it over to someone else for modifying any route.
4. Secured: simply deattach the mount or carry the whole thing with you easily if you are parking your car in a public place where you feel unsafe about your GPS.
Cons:
It slipped couple of times though not very frequently. This may distract your attention while driving. But it hardly happens. No more cons, feel happy.
Conclusion: I would recommend and suggest to go for this product because the suction mount is not that reliable with these bulky models. My suction mount melted due to heat and left black marks over the windshield which were wiped-off after putting some efforts. So am happy with my dashboard mount than the suction mount. Get, Set and GO...
Customer Review: Convenient and durable Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this mount to replace the original suction cup that came with my Garmin c330. The original charging cord frayed and I didn't like the marks the suction cup left behind on my windshield.
The mount is well designed, with heavy and sticky weights that keep it from moving around during cornering. For the most part the weights do a pretty good job, but you do have to clean the dash surface before you set it down, otherwise the dust will prevent a good adhesion. It's worth noting that although the flexible arms are very soft, they still don't make perfect contact with the dash of my two vehicles (a 2001 Civic and 2010 Venza), which means the mount does move after driving around, but only slightly.
The mount allows the GPS to be tilted and rotated in every direction and it has a locking feature that keeps it in place once you've installed it. But here is where my biggest gripe comes in. It's not very stable when you try to use the touchscreen as it sits on the dash because it doesn't have anything to back it up, such as the windshield, so the GPS tends to give under your finger pressure, which makes it a bit difficult to get good tactile feedback. I find myself pressing the buttons two or three times until I get it right, which can be frustrating while entering long addresses.
Overall, it mostly works but it's nothing to get too excited about.
