Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin City Navigator North America for Detailed Maps of the United State, Canada and Mexico (DVD)

Customer Review: Frustrating
Summary: 3 Stars

After reading the reviews, I knew the installation process was going to be lengthy. Okay, I got that. What I couldn't stand was they had absolutely no tutorial for the product. I consider myself to be somewhat savvy when it comes to figuring out how to work programs, but this was ridiculous. It took hours just to figure out the basics. Maybe they expect you to have already purchased their maps before. Once I have figured out how to navigate my way through the basics, yes they give good directions and are accurate. It's just hard to get past the fact that they told tell you how to use it.

Customer Review: Installation problems?
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't know why some persons have problems to install it, just insert the DVD in your computer, follow the instructions on the screen and you are done.
You receive a bunch of data and information, you will need 2GB Micro SD card in order to have the complete DVD in your GPS (the complete info is about 1001.1 MB plus your track and waipoints...)

Note: The Garmin 60 CSX only accepts 2GB in the same card, don't pretend to buy a 4 GB card in order to store all the maps of your computer in the same card, instead of that, prior your trip, select the regions you will need.

I would not recommend Garmin at all because of their new software policy. I just bought my 2nd Garmin device, and I CAN NOT load already purchased software on it. Once Garmin software gets loaded on a GPS, it is tied to that particular unit FOREVER, and can not be transferred to a newer unit you may buy. You have to buy a SECOND COPY of the software & install it again, that's right, two copies of the same software on you computer. Just say no to this BS & get a different brand.

Their policy is nowhere to be found before you buy the software

Customer Review: Ciao America!
Summary: 4 Stars

Well, I'm an Italian guy moving to the US to join my wife who was already here. Everything is new for me, especially streets, highways and towns. I'll start scheduling appointments for interviews around, in my area (New Jersey and New York). That's why I bought this product: I already own a Garmin Nuvi 360 with European maps preloaded. It's more or less everything you need to reach a place, so why not continue to use it also here in the US? Currently I've not tested it US-wide, but my area is covered in a really detailed way. I love Garmin.

Customer Review: Great Maps, High Price
Summary: 3 Stars

I received a Garmin eTrex Legend HCx GPS for Christmas (for my Geocaching habit), and I wanted to be able to use it for directions when I travel. For the price of the GPS and this map software, I could have bought a nice TomTom 720 GPS. The Garmin software doesn't seem to allow me to edit for roads that have been closed, but the TomTom does. The most frustrating thing about the software is that Garmin locks it to a single GPS unit. If I upgrade to a newer GPS (or if it breaks), I can't move my $120 maps to it. Grrr.
