Amazon offers this as an accessory for the Garmin Approach G5. This is a recharger. the G-5 is battery powered, not a rechargeable. Why is Amazon offering a product that cannot be used with the product for which it is recommended? is this Amazon's choice or the retailer's choice? Whoever's choice it is, it certainly makes them look like either they do not know what they are talking about or they are trying to defraud the unwary buyer. if you bought the G5 or G3, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!Customer Review: A Waste of Money and DANGEROUS!!!

This item did not work for my Nuvi 255W as advertised. It failed to work for 2 other Nuvi models that I have as well. Feeling extremely lightweight to the point where it felt empty, I decided to carefully pry the thing apart, and much to my surprise, there was nothing inside the plastic charger body. There was nothing connecting the plug prongs to the power cord - A MAJOR SHOCK AND/OR FIRE HAZARD!!! I'm curious why Garmin doesn't include this A/C power cable with the purchase of the device. To charge the device takes a WHOLE lot of driving if you don't have it. If you commute long distances maybe that's acceptable, but for short commutes it takes forever to charge the unit. I can't see owning a Garmin without having the A/C charger - & for those who travel outside the U.S. the universal adapter plugs are a handy thing to have. This isn't an accessory, it's a necessity.Customer Review: Not needed if you have USB available.

Your PC's USB Port will charge your Nuvi, if it is your Laptop, it may be that only one of your USB ports will be 'powered'.
Check in Device Manager for Properties of USB ports to see charging capability.
You usually use the USB Nuvi Cable to connect you Nuvi for programming, but it will just charge as well.
With my Dell D830, it will charge the NUVI even when computer is off, as long as it is connected to AC Power source.

The Garmin power cord is a necessity for this product. Whether driving locally, long distance, biking or walking this is the only way to maintain a sure charge for this travel/mapping device. The car charger alone does not retain the memory of this GPS. Otherwise, it takes a long while for the Garmin to recharge if the battery is low. The external power cord should have been included in the original package. Without it I'd be lost......... (pun)
