Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Garmin Map Update 2009 for City Navigator North America NTCustomer Review: Troublesome and Frustrating Summary: 3 Stars
If you have issues updating your GPS, make sure your USB cable is plugged directly into a USB port on the back of your PC. Although the instructions don't explain it -- I had to go to the company website to find any mention -- the update will fail if you try loading it using a USB hub. After several very frustrating attempts, and thinking I had completely destroyed my C330, I tried plugging it directly into a USB port on the back of my machine, and the update finally completed successfully!
Also, certain models won't be able to load all the info. The StreetPilot C330, will only be able to load the lower 48 states. You need an extra memory card to load Canada and Alaska, too.
Customer Review: Garmin map update 2009 Summary: 1 Stars
Not worth the money because there is no much diffence from the 2008 map. I was also dissappointed because I had submitted an interception where the navigator asks me to make a right turn into private property which has been blocked by Public Works. I had provided this information about nine months before the release of the update and this correction never made it to the final publication. I provided GPS coordinates to make sure that they could properly identify the location.
Basically it takes too long for new developments to be added to the maping system. My area is already available in Google Earth and it was visible two years ago. We are still not in the Garmin map.

Even though they state the map is 2008/2009, it is probably 2 to 3 years old as many new malls are not on the map, plus places that don't exist are still on the maps. Additionally "Jack's" voice is still not as clear as it should be when it comes to pronounciation. I keep thinking they will improve it, but it doesn't happen. Mine is a 340 and this is the second upgrade I've bought. Probably the next time I'll switch to another brand and see if it is better. The update price is getting pretty close to buying a new GPS with the LCD and larger screen. I paid $450 4 years ago and now they're about $179 with an update for $75. I really think the update should be a minimal cost.
Customer Review: SELLING OPEN USED PRODUCTS NOT COOL LUV my PC store!!!! Summary: 3 Stars
Amazon is great, so don't think I'm disrespecting amazon or garmin products but the person who sold me this sold a re-sealed package with a serial number that had already been used and the garmin update could not be done, it was already even registered to another user. We did manage to get it to work by calling garmin and explaining the situation so I have no problem with the map update, even though it still sees my road as an unpaved street (which it is not, nor has it been for 3 years), all in all the product wasn't bad but I do want to say to stay clear from user "LUV my PC store" at least when it involves anything you can only register once and if you except it to be new.
Customer Review: No longer cost effective to update my maps Summary: 2 Stars
Garmin needs to realize that most GPS units no longer sell for $500+. I used to update my maps every year on my modest Street Pilot C330, but it no longer makes any sense. I can sell it on eBay and pick up a new unit, with new maps, for less than what Garmin sells their map updates. $50+ for a map update might have been reasonable a few years ago, but GPS prices are a fraction of what they once were. Map update prices have pretty much stayed the same though. Very little changes in these updates each year too. Until Garmin gets realistic with their update pricing, I'll just pick up a new $100 unit every year or two, and sell the old one.
