Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of GTMax 3-Pack Premium Reusable LCD Screen Protector with Lint Cleaning Cloth for iPod touch 1G (Clear)Customer Review: Bait-and-switch deception Summary: 1 Stars
As mentioned in a previous review, the photographs for this product clearly show an iTouch 2G, with the hole for the home button rather than an inverted "U" that would work with the 1G.
Nowhere in the product description does it state the product is for 1G only. Yet the package clearly states "Suitable for Touch 1G [sic] Full front."
I wrote BargainCell requesting an exchange. They told me to give them a CC number for reshipping charges. Reshippping charges?!? The cost of the product was 1 cent and the shipping was $2.98 (while another vendor had the price as $2.99 with free shipping). I told them I would not pay any more shipping for their inaccurate description. They responded that their description clearly said the protectors were for the iTouch and not for the 2G. What, in heavens name, do they think the 2G is?
This 1G product might work, but it is not designed specifically for the iTouch 2G - their deceptive pictures of the 2G notwithstanding. It is unethical and dishonest to use a bait-and-switch with your customers and then refuse to make it right. Thank goodness for Amazon's "A-to-Z Guarantee" for third-party sellers.
If you're thinking of buying anything from BargainCell - Caveat emptor!
UPDATE - 2 June 2009: After posting this negative review and filing an A-to-Z claim with Amazon, I got an email from BargainCell promising to send the correct product at no additional charge. So, I canceled the claim and waited ... and waited. After almost four weeks - and nothing from BargainCell - I realized they were not going to make it right, so I re-instated my claim. When I did so, I copied BargainCell on the email to Amazon, to which they said ... nothing. Today the refund came through and still no word from them.
I've gotten stuff from BargainCell before and it has been pretty good. This was a real surprise for me ... but educational. I don't care if they're selling iMacs for a nickel, I'm not buying. And neither should you.
Customer Review: Not as Advertised! Summary: 1 Stars
This product doesn't fit either the 2G or 3G versions of the iPod Touch. I've purchased screen protectors for numerous cell phones, a Nintendo DS, and a GPS, and this is the first time I've had this problem! The hole for the Home button is misplaced by a fraction of an inch, so that there is a gap underneath it that is not covered by the protector. The protector is also too narrow, so it is impossible to completely cover the delicate glass screen and protect it from nicks, defeating the purpose of installing the protector to begin with.
If you're still suckered into buying this pointless product, be aware that the packaging is ridiculously inaccurate. The instructions on the back list 4 simple steps (LCD screen protectors are simple but painstakingly difficult to install precisely). Step 4 discusses using the included installation card to smooth out any air bubbles under the screen when there is no actual card included in the package itself (You can smooth these bubbles out with your fingers). The "Features" list brags that the screens are free of fingerprints and bubbles, while being both washable and reusable. This is simply not true. While the surface of these protector screens are easy to wipe, they do collect fingerprints and will collect bubbles if you are not VERY careful during installation. Because the screen doesn't fit correctly it's also more likely to collect bubbles as dirt wiggles its way under the surface with use. Washable and reusable? Hardly! While these screens cling lightly and don't leave an adhesive, if you remove it and try to reapply it will have lost its static cling and won't fully stick anymore. If you wash these they will be ruined. LCD screen protectors come 3 to a pack and are dirt-cheap because they're meant to be disposable.
Save your money and look for a screen that fits correctly!
Customer Review: Private label. Defective Summary: 1 Stars
Latest update.
I filed a complaint with Amazon.
Let me explain what I think the problem is.
First, of course, the correct product is not being shipped.
Secondly, there were no directions on mine. It turned out, the final white tab to be removed is supposed to remove the entire piece of plastic that covers the protector. Since the tab tears off without removing the top layer,we think the top layer is the protector. When I decided to throw the protectors away immediately, I removed the top layer, and didn't realize the remaining layer was the protector. I saw the bubbles and I thought my screen was ruined. Then I thought that maybe, the bubbles are caused by a remaining layer. Again from the bottom, (at the hole), I removed the actual protector. All the bubbles disappeared.
Finally: I guess there is no such thing as "IKROSS Screen Protector." For some reason, comments on this site indicate it's a name brand. I googled. Can't find anything other than these these cheap protectors with various names on them. Amazon should delete the Ikross name since it seems like every vendor ships their own whatever.
Original review.
This is the Blue Harbor private label brand.
There are two tabs on each piece. The inside tab removed easily prior to application.
The outside tab, which is to be removed after application, would not come off.
Now I have a white tab down the upper left corner of the IPOD, which looks lousy.
Would not buy again.
UPDATE. Decided to remove it and throw all 3 out. Not taking a chance on having it damage my screen.
Amazon needs to do something about this.
Customer Review: Get Ready to Use All Three Summary: 2 Stars
I wanted some good protection for my iTouch screen and decided to go with this three piece set at the very low price. (The description for this product states it is for an iKross product, however when my screen protectors arrived, they were produced by a company named "Blue Harbor.")
The concept is simplicity itself--the thin film attaches to the front of your iTouch screen with a non-sticky adhesive. This screen protector prevents scratches and accidental mars from showing up on your screen.
The big problem with this screen protector is that you'll most likely have to use all three before you get an acceptable application of the film. Unless you live in a dust-free clean room, your chances of a successful application of this screen protector is virtually zero. Tiny specks of dust that fall on your iTouch screen will prevent a completely bubble free installation. In addition, the edges of this screen protector do not adhere. You'll find that no matter how much you press on these areas, they will not completely stick to the screen.
Your best hope is to have a few bubbles show up underneath the film. The product even admits to this fact that over time "bubbles will appear."
If you are obsessive compulsive to any degree, (not me ;) ) this screen protect will drive you crazy because it is virtually impossible to install without bubbles in addition to the edges not completely sticking to the screen surface.
For less than a buck and a one out of three chance of getting a semi-good install of this screen protector on your iTouch/iPhone, you may or may not want to take a chance on it. It's a good thing it was so inexpensive as I would have given it a one-star review if it cost more.
Customer Review: garbage Summary: 1 Stars
I got it in the mail in a vague flimsy envelope and with no packaging, instructions or identification of what it was or who was sending it, just a company named OEM or something like that. It looked like junk mail. I couldn't figure out who was sending me what. It was like someone was sending me these little samples of hard plastic that I wouldn't identify as an ipod screen cover, not the usual flexible screen protectors I have bought for my camera and phone, so not knowing what it was, I threw it away... when I realized what got tossed, oh well, it was what it was - garbage. I'd prefer to deal with someone who gives you packaging to identify what the thing is, how to apply it and why you have that and a TWO INCH SQUARE of cloth, good size for one finger only, your choice, but I guarantee you that this little girl's thumb would be too large. I truly looked it over, couldn't figure out what those little things were and yes, thought I had a handful of samples and tossed them. You get what you pay for and someone is getting rich on you-sucker-u wanting a bargain. It's sort of like the old chain letter, send a dollar to this person and you will be rewarded in heaven and who cares because they're getting your money. I found my solution at best buy when I went down there and bought a REAL screen protector + ipod cover (all included in packaage), more money, but mission accomplished -- for the extra money, I can see what I bought, it has pictures, instructions, words. It doesn't come with a one-finger size screen cleaner cloth, but I'll live okay without one. No offense amazon, but if your vendors are this vague, I think it might be better to go down and buy something in-person.
