Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Goldtouch Adjustable Keyboard (Black)

Customer Review: A Very Comfortable Keyboard
Summary: 5 Stars

This keyboard is the best among mini-keyboards. I tried several mini-keyboards but found the keys to be too small. The Goldtouch keyboard, however, has the same full-size keys as a regular extended keyboard, except it does not have the numeric, 10-keypad on the right. Even the function keys are full size. Some keys on ultra-thin mini-keyboards barely actuate, which makes it difficult to tell if you typed that key at all. When you press a key on the Goldtouch, it lowers a good quarter inch. And unlike other split keyboards set at a permanent angle, it uses a ball and socket, so you can adjust the split to any angle up to 30 degrees, horizontal and vertical. The keys are easy to press and very quiet.

The only thing I do not like about the keyboard is that the Caps Lock key is too close to the A key. When I mistype, I start typing in ALL CAPS by mistake. However, if you are a good typist, you should not have this problem.

Customer Review: Not as good as the previous version
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this to replace an 8 year old Goldtouch keyboard that had broken (the pivot between the two halves of the keyboard broke...that's the weak point of the mechanical design of this item). So reliability is not a big issue. However, key placement is.

The Home key is now right next to the Back Space key on the upper right side; it wasn't before...I keep hitting Home when I intend to hit Back Space. Also, the location of the Delete key was moved, along with a rearrangement of all the other left-side keys. Control-alt-delete is no longer a strain-free motion with one hand...bad design (especially for Windoze users that need to use that particular set of keys...).

Overall it's the best thing on the market for relief of strain during typing, but the previous key layout was far superior to the current layout.

Customer Review: Well made, very configurable, very expensive
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using the Goldtouch keyboard about 2 weeks, and I can say that once I found the right keyboard alignment (the halves are movable), I noticed a reduction in wrist ache. The feel of the keyboard is far superior to the Logitech wireless it replaced, and the different arrangement of page navigation keys (home, end, pg up, pg down) makes a lot of sense.

But. This keyboard is at least 4x more expensive than the MS Natural Elite. Given the way I've configured the keyboard, I'm not sure the vertical and horizontal angles are far off from what the non-adjustable Microsoft version offers.

This is a quality product with a lot of adjustability, but considering the price, I would recommend at least trying one of the "ordinary" ergonomic keyboards first to see if it fits your needs.

Customer Review: Not the keyboard it used to be
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this keyboard a few years ago, and it was fantastic then. I recently spilled water on it and had to get a new one. One of the reviews stated that the new Mac keyboards made by this company are much lower quality and made of cheaper materials than the PC keyboard. Now that I have the new PC keyboard, I'm finding the same thing about it: the quality has definitely gotten alot lower. The plastic is cheap and even the "sound" and "feel" of the keys is different than what it used to be. Not sure what the extent of the remaining changes are (I just got the new keyboard, so who knows if it breaks easier now, too?). But I can already tell an immediate difference that the quality is lower now. So sad, it used to be a great ergonomic keyboard.

Customer Review: Great Product, but poor (no) service after it broke!
Summary: 1 Stars

I have used the black Goldtouch keyboard for about a year. It is an awesome keyboard, and I have saved my wrists because of it. However, it recently broke during my conference deadline (as a computer scientist, a keyboard is one's life!). I emailed their support, and they do not have an option to repair or replace a faulty keyboard (even if I would pay for the fix). Sadly, I have bought a second Goldtouch, but I really really wish they would have made my $120 purchase worth it. It's nice that it's a little cheaper now, but if it breaks after another year... pooh on them.

Keyboards should NOT break. I have old IBM beige-colored keyboards that still work.
