Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Goldtouch Adjustable Keyboard (Black)Customer Review: Good feel but bad quality and customer service Summary: 2 Stars
This keyboard has a nice feel to it and is well designed. However, I do not recommend it because of its quality issues and poor customer service.
After just a couple months of use, the "5" key started acting funny. I'm a fast typer and whenever I need to type two "5"s in a row, the keyboard only registers one "5". If I type more slowly, it works fine but when I type at my regular speed it doesn't work. This may not sound like a big deal but when you're doing precision programming or working with dollar amounts in the millions and billions of dollars, one little "5" could be disastrous. Also, you have to wonder what else is going to go wrong over time.
This does not happen on any other key and the keyboard acts the same way on other PCs. Cold booting the PC did not fix the problem. Customer service gave us the run around and was very slow in responding to questions and our responses to their own questions. It would take several days for them to get back to us after we emailed them. After much lobbying on our part and much back-and-forth, they offered to exchange the keyboard but only with a 50% stocking fee! Ridiculous! Note there is supposedly a one year warranty on this keyboard!
Nothing has been spilled on this keyboard and it is still very clean.
When looking at the Amazon reviews, notice how great the reviews were back in 2005 but from January 2006 forward, it gets pretty ugly.
Customer Review: Huge decline in quality over time Summary: 3 Stars
I bought my first Goldtouch about 4 years ago, and loved it. The posture was comfortable, the keys were soft... my wrist health improved perceptibly. Five stars for sure.
A couple years later, I bought two more (the same product, remember) for other computers. While the posture hasn't changed, the quality of manufacturing has decreased so much that I can't give the current model better than 2 stars. The keys stick, the space bar vibrates, and some keys require monstrous force to activate. One keyboard was so bad that I had to send it back... they were friendly, and happy to replace it, and told me that it had a known "manufacturing defect", but the replacement was only slightly better. All of the Goldtouch keyboards I've seen or owned in the last couple years have had the same problems.
As another minor annoyance, there is a power management bug such that the keyboard doesn't work coming out of standby (you have to unplug it and re-plug it); they have no fix for this problem.
This used to be a great product, and I recommended it to everyone, but now it's at best on par with the MS Natural Elite that costs _literally_ one-tenth the price.
Get your quality back up, keyovation, and I'll start recommending this again!
Customer Review: very good Summary: 4 Stars
I just wanted to point out that there are 2 goldtouch keyboard layouts with a subtle difference.
One has the goldtouch-logo, followed by the Esc key, followed by the F1 key.
The other has the Esc key followed by the logo, followed by the F1 key. This one also has an indentation on the caps-lock key and also the right-shift and right-control keys (the indentations might make it easier to learn the layout of this keyboard). Also the indentation on the caps-lock key helps to avoid accidentally pressing it, when you're trying to hit the 'A' key.
I think the latter layout is better; I have the former and I keep hitting the caps-lock key when I try to hit the 'A' key. Just thought I would point this out.
Overall , I like this keyboard a lot. It is a huge improvement over the old goldtouch keyboad which didn't have easy F11 and F12 buttons. This new one also has two sets of backspace/del buttons, one for the left hand and one for the right hand which I think is useful, although I need to get into the habit of using the left-hand keys.
I need to be able to change my keyboard angles regularly to prevent pain, and this goldtouch keyboard is indispensable for that purpose.
Customer Review: Natural. Simple. I'm hooked. Summary: 5 Stars
I was sure I would be using my clunky, clicky, good ol' IBM XT keyboard forever, but ever since I used the Goldtouch Ergonomic Split Keyboard at my internship, I questioned my loyalty. The feel of the keys is softer and easier to use, but it's not so soft that the weight of your fingers pushes the keys down or retriggers too fast, etc.. The tactile feedback is pleasant and just right.
The footrpint is nice and small and until you have a smaller keyboard like it you won't realize how much space you had on your desk. It has a great keyboard layout and I really miss having the page up and page down keys on the left side of the keyboard so I can use my mouse in my right hand at the same time. If you get a chance to try one (for even just a week) you will always question why every other keyboard is so plain, illogical and contorted in comparison. Very natural. I'm hooked and totally willing to pay the just over $100 for one of my own now that my internship's over.
Customer Review: Great product again and excellent customer service Summary: 5 Stars
I wrote a review earlier about the new model (GTU-077) versus the older model (KFK-E87YB). The new model had some initial production problems of stiffer key pressure and loose contact with some right hand keys.
Customer service was proactive in contacting me and letting me know that they had fixed those problems. They even sent me a fixed keyboard. That was above and beyond customer service expectations!
The fixed keyboard GTU-077 is a joy to use again. The key pressure is back to normal. I am recovering from repetitive stress injury (RSI) due to typing. I put the keyboard on my lap in the shape of a flat tent, which really helped alleviate my RSI pain immediately.
One minor nit: I do prefer the key placement of the previous model (ESC not connected to the row of Function keys). However, I did get used to the placement and it does not detract from the overall benefits of use.
Excellent keyboard!
