Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 Sheet-fed ScannerCustomer Review: Happily Surprised at How Good Summary: 5 Stars
Besides the scanner being great, the package includes a standard copy of Adobe Acrobat - not just the Adobe Acrobat Reader - and the high-end OCR software made by ABBYY FineReader. The scanner is very compact, but opens easily and has pull-outs to support legal size input or output. In fact, you can scan any size input by setting the scanning software options - which is easy to do.
There are levels of scanning detail you can use depending on what you need. It scans both sides of a document with one pass and will remove blank sheets if you want. The conversion from a clean document to Microsoft Word is a 10. The standard version of Acrobat lets you made PDF documents that can be searched by keyword. Acrobat lets you convert the PDF to images such as JPEG and TIFF.
There are lots more features I haven't used yet, but this machine is just what you want if you need document scanning. Thanks to all the other reviewers for convincing me that this was a good buy.
Oh, BTW, if you just need image scanning without OCR the scan speed for double-sided documents is about 18 pages a minute. They also supply a transparent holder if you need to scan small pieces of paper, like notes you took on a napkin at lunch.
Customer Review: Stop your research. Buy this. Now. Summary: 5 Stars
I did hours of research while looking for a scanner. I wanted one that could scan large numbers of documents, and do both sides at the same time. I wanted on that would turn these documents into searchable/editable PDFs. I wanted one that rarely jammed. I wanted one that was reasonably fast. I wanted one that was reliable.
Well, I found it. This scanner is everything I wanted and more. I actually rave about this thing to my friends, who just give me a blank look and then ask each other when I lost my mind.
Seriously, it doesn't get better than this.
Every review should have something at least a little critical in it, I guess... if I was *forced*, I suppose I would complain that it doesn't seem to scan images particularly well, although I really haven't played with the settings much. (The defaults are nearly flawless for virtually all the scanning I do.) Oh, and it very occasionally grabs two pages instead of one. (Usually happens when you don't take care when removing staples.)
Anyway... BUY this thing. It will change your life. Ya. Really. I did my taxes in 1 day because I had everything scanned into my computer. Simply awesome.
Customer Review: Excellent little scanner! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best scanner I have ever purchased, period. I've had lots of scanners all the way from Visioneer's old sheet-fed PaperPort (which was a great little scanner, by the way) to flatbeds, to multi-function units. The last scanner I purchased was a Brother MFC with duplex scanning, and it works, but it's a pain because of the software, and then when Vista came out, the duplex function didn't work.
I bought this scanner based on the reviews, and today I scanned about 750 sheets of paper. Worked perfectly. Software, including full version of Adobe Acrobat 8, is great. Just load in the paper and push the button and WOW! It works as advertised!
And the footprint is small. It sits next to my monitor, and is so convenient. When not in use, you can fold everything up and it looks good and is small.
I scanned color documents and text documents. Single-sided and double-sided sheets. Worked great on all of them.
I am very, very pleased with this purchase. And like I said, I have owned and used dozens of scanners, and I say if you ever buy a scanner, get this one. It is well worth the expense!!
Customer Review: Completely satisified. Summary: 5 Stars
Most of the reviews have it right. There are some minor flaws, but overall this is a great product. If you can find their main site, watch the video and see a demonstration.
It's fast. There are four levels of quality for scanning: Normal, Better, Best, and Excellent. I don't know why they rate "Excellent" as faster than "Best." But still, I usually scan at "Best" and it's a good speed and quality scan.
I don't see why their cleaning kit is necessary. I use Windex Glass Wipes and that does the trick. Watch the glass because over time, some ink and dust buildup will cause scan lines. If you see strange lines in your images, then you should check for that buildup and use the wipes to clean the glass.
I can go more than a thousand sheets (50 sheet stacks each) without a jam by fanning the pages like they show in the manual. I pinch one end of a stack, slide the other end along my finger so the sheets "staircase on edge" -if you can understand that. Then I pinch the staircased end while loosening the other grip. And I gently place them in and they're off. It's so easy. But some paper will take better than others.
Customer Review: Paperless Life !. ScanScap S510 just fits the bill Summary: 5 Stars
Awesome is only word I can describe about this scanner. I am absolutely going paperless and scanning everything I get in mail ( except junk ). I spend almost 5 days in holidays and scanned every paperwork I recevied for 2007, now that's almost 1200+ pages and put them on CD.
I am scanning every check and every bill of 2008 and shredding the paper copies.
I am in RealEstate and Stocks and Since IRS now accepts photocopies ( what was last time you really needed original copy to send ? , I don't remember ), I have scanned over 1200 pages and will be scanning another 600-800 in next week. This scanner has scanned every document ( both sides ) and made a searchable PDF.
It comes with Adobe Standard and Scanscap organiser which is perfect with this scanner. My friends were amazed with this scanner and I am sure they must have bought it by now.
Small compact unit, duplex color fast scanning ( 18 pages / min ) and searchable PDF... Perfect Combo..
My best purchase of 2007 !.
Thanks Fujitsu , I love this product.. I am going paperless in 2008 with S510..
