Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 Sheet-fed Scanner

Customer Review: Speedy Scans
Summary: 4 Stars

I really like this small machine. I've had it about a month and have so far scanned thousands of old work invoices and statements for storage as well as family photos and patient medical records. Does them all. Very easy set-up, and relatively easy to figure out with-out getting deep into the included written documentation. I scan all kinds of stuff, this scanner zips through them with virtually no problems. I agree with other reviewers-"Blazingly Fast". My only very small complaint is it does occasionally jam but it is incredibly easy to unjam in seconds. It isn't a "twain" compliant scanner, so if that is important to you definitely be aware of that limitation. In my applications this is not a huge problem but has surfaced as a "hmmm... wish it did this" type of situation. This is why I gave it four stars-it isn't absolutely perfect but close. Another nice feature is it picks up the job where it left off, if something does get jammed or you are manually feeding in different sizes of documents.

The device has a relatively straight through pass for the documents or photos which makes it great at scanning old photos-so the photos don't get all bent up. The ability to duplex scan (both sides at once) is a real time saver.

It comes bundled with all the software a person could want or need so it is ready to go right out of the box! I like it so much I'm considering buying another one for work. For the price this nifty little scanner can make short work of most of your scanning needs.

Customer Review: Say it with attitude...Snap, Snap!
Summary: 5 Stars

Installed easily for this gal (and I am NO techie), up and running WITHOUT reading anything beyond the two page quick set-up guide. Skipped over installing ABBYY, as I chose to use Omnipage (due to running WP and Word in the office). Still working out some formatting quirks (Omni/old versions WP issue), but that is not a fault of the scanner.

This machine is SUPRISINGLY SMALL and such a convenience. Quickly allows for seemless scan and attachment to emails, and is fast becoming indespensible in the office to revive old docs that are lost to old software or computer systems without the need for hours lost to typing.

I am sure there are a lot more features in the software to explore (once I actually read the manual), but it is truly refreshing to open the box and be up and running with no tech assistance or protracted manual review.

CONS: Will NOT tolerate any bent or previously stapled or folded documents (very sensitive), so do copy any suspect pages first before feeding through.

Scan to email will not allow you to look for an email address in Outlook, beyond those addresses already in your book (or at least I have not figured a way around that yet). So when you scan to email, and frame comes up, which effectively locks you from going into your outlook folders to look for an email which may not be one you have incorporated into your address book.

All in all, a definite BUY from this reviewer.

Customer Review: The Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 is a fantastic scanner .
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this scanner after reading all of the great reviews on Amazon. I have now had it for about one month and it has worked better than I imagined it could. I use it primarily in my business for converting loan documents such as applications, tax returns, Word documents, etc. into PDF files for E-mailing to banks and clients. It came with Adobe Acrobat Version 8.0 and the combination has been fantastic. I can scan the documents, combine them into a single file, reorder them, bookmark sections, and then E-mail the final product.

A really great side benefit has been how well the ScanSnap S510 scans my old printed snapshots. I have about 4,000 photos of my children as they were growing up that I took prior to digital photos being available. I have scanned over 3,500 of them to JPG format. I have had almost no jams, and the resulting product is great. I scan the photos using the next to best resolution and it scans about 35 pictures per minute. I will now be able to give each of my children a copy of all of my photos to do with as they wish.

I love this scanner. It has been one of the best purchases I have made this year. In all honesty I can not think of a single negative. I did keep my old sheet scanner for the rare times I need to scan a page from a book or magazine that I don't want to destroy.

Customer Review: Don't count on the rebate
Summary: 1 Stars

Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 Sheet-fed Scanner

When I considered the price I included the $[...] rebate in my calculations. Without that rebate it would have been too expensive a product. I submitted all of the paperwork to Fujitsu, including the filled in form on their website.

After hearing nothing for a while I inquired and they gave me the cryptic message: "Another record may have been created, contact customer support" Following that link one gets yet another form to fill out with a request for attachments in PDF format. Of course, the site will not accept PDFs produced by ScanSnap or even from the web page. How ironic.

Now I'm waiting to be contacted. I wrote an email to the "contact us" link, and no joy there either. I have written an email to Amazon asking for their help as well. It is too soon to say if that gets me anywhere.

I do all of my XMAS shopping on Amazon and have spent loads of money here. I've had no problems to speak of until now. I am surely going to think twice about buying a big ticket item here if I don't get help from Amazon in shaking Fujitsu loose of my $[...].

I'd beware of Fujitsu given this and the other comments about customer support.

Customer Review: Wonderful little scanner
Summary: 5 Stars

I normally don't write review but just have to write the review to praise this scanner. I was frustrated with All-in-one machines not up to their potential. No matter it is HP or Brothers, they just does not get it right with their software. I finally bite the bullet to purchase this pretty expensive scanner after seeing all the review. I still had some dault with recent failed experience with Brother 5860CN MFC printer. But just with few days usage, I was very, very happy with my purchase. For the real estate/loan business, I have to scan 20~50 pages easily pur package with letter/legal size, single or double side pages mixed. This scanner handles it smoothly and quickly. The bundled Adobe 8 standard software makes the combine/edit documents easy and with great size compaction. Most other brands such as Brother used PaperPort software which is the worst choice they can have. I used to have to split documents to several package to send email due to large scanned file size. Now I combined all documents in one package and it's still very small and I have not even use the higher compression choice! I hope this review can encourge you to make up your mind. Great product from Fujitsu for this product doing one thing to it's best. I bought it through CTI store with $[...] after $[...] rebate directly from Fujitsu.
