Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Franklin Merriam-Webster ((Speaking)) Spanish-English Dictionary (BES-1850)Customer Review: Not what I thought Summary: 2 Stars
The image is very very hard to see, I thought it was poor batteries, but I've tried every kind and still the only way to get a decent image of the screen is to use the dim option, which of course drains more battery. The options on the bottom of the screen are hard to figure out how to access. It translates the words we need and the phrases are pretty useful, though very basic. Not worth the selling price though, I'd pay 20-30$ for a device like this. My advice....keep researching and try them out in person before buying online if possible.
Customer Review: Underrealized Expectations Summary: 2 Stars
This is not much more than a dictionary with a difficult to read screen. I think I expected more of a "Babblefish" type translation device where I could input a phrase I needed to speak. This device only allows single word input. The "phrases" described in the marketing refers to pre-set common phrases, and is very poorly organized with no search capabilities outside of major categories. It would be good in emergencies (such as when you go blank trying to remember a specific word), but unfortunately its too big to slide into a pocket.
Customer Review: It's very hard to read Summary: 3 Stars
It's very hard to read without the backlight and it shuts off after a very short time! I don't think it allows you to program the backlight duration. If you want to read anything you always have to be turning it back on! The vocabulary is limited compared to the Sharp PW E550 dictionary. The keyboard is not as comfortable as the Sharp. Its ok if you are not going to use it for a prolonged time. After some time you're fingers will get tired since the keyboard is somewhat compressed.
Customer Review: Pros and cons Summary: 3 Stars
Pros: It has a pretty good amount of definitions. The touch screen is comfortable and the English pronunciations are fairly good. If what you are trying is to learn is English, this can be helpful as it was (and still is) to me.
Cons: Unless you have the light on, the screen is hard to see. The Spanish pronunciations are terrible, awful. Spanish is my native language and believe me, not worth it. If you are looking for help with pronunciation in Spanish this item won't help you.
Customer Review: Great little dictionary Summary: 5 Stars
I just started my 2nd semester of spanish & wanted a dictionary to help me with my studies. I decided on this model, BES-1850, because of the speaking aspect & I love it. It really has helped me with my pronunciation of the language & is much easier to use then a regular dictionary. I do agree that the screen is hard to read but I just use the backlighting on the dictionary & have no problems. I really am glad I broke down & purchased this item & use it daily.
