I purchased this product to take to Mexico on vacation. It is almost impossible to read the blue print on the blue background in any lighting with or without the back light on, even with contrast set to maximum. I have been so frustrated with not being able to see the information that I know it has that I have had to resist throwing it across a room. I am still in Mexico, and will take it back to the point of purchase as soon as I get back over the border. It is insane for a company to produce a product with so much good information and then make it impossible to access.Customer Review: great to use anywhere!

the product is exactly what you'd expect. you could carry it around anywhere and never feel at lost for a word. the only thing i could note as a setback was that it was everything i could expect.. and nothing more. the extra feature for adding on cards as word banks in other languages is great but not exactly an attractive option. something like an internet connection for updating would be more convenient BUT thats a irrelevant issue. if you need a pocket dictionary for the english and spanish languages, this product is well-priced and durable. highly recommended.Customer Review: great little dictionary with speaking ability for students or parents

In translate from English to Spanish and vice versa. you want to add more you have to buy cards but its up to you if you want to expend your library. My parents used it even now. the light in the screen is a bit dim so plug to the wall and it should be ok to read. Not sure if it came with a ac/dc adapter. Good product to have for intermediate students. fast delivery when it was shipped it too about 4 days and than after that it took 2 more days to get here, so it was a fast delivery.
Don't forget to increase the brightness and use good batteries

This was originally purchased for a friend & I also bought the same product later. She said it didn't convey the words accurately, but seemed much better when she used the earphones. I don't find the earphones to be of much help. She & her husband have a purpose in learning Spanish so they are also using other tools. She has grown more pleased with it as she becomes familiar with it. I would say from our experience probably not the best tool for clarity of sound, but useful considering the price. We do like the "clean" speech of Merriam-Webster.Customer Review: I was disappointed

Franklin Merriam-Webster ((Speaking)) Spanish-English Dictionary (BES-1850). I really did not test it's functionality. From that stand point it might be fabulous but the fact that I could not read the display screen was sufficient for me to return the device. The letters are blue, the backround is light green. Even after adjusting the resolution I had problems reading the small letters. If you do not have perfect vision I would not recommend this unit.
