I got this for my wife for Christmas to replace our 7-year-old mini-DV camcorder. The other still works fine, but we never get it out because it's so inconvenient to keep track of which tape has been recorded on and whether it has been cued to the right position and so on.
The Flip is so easy. We literally opened the box, put in the included batteries, found the on button, and started recording without even touching the manual. The screen is bright, clear, and easy to see. The videos come off the Flip very easily using software that's already on the Flip (so no worries about downloading drivers or losing CDs--just install the software the first time you plug it in and you're good to go) and look great! I've already uploaded one of the videos to facebook so our family in other states can see our 9-month-old daughter.
And I'm pretty sure our manual is still in plastic wrap in the box.

I think it's fantastic. I just got it, so I can't say how the battery life is (I ordered the seperate rechargeable battery pack, but the fact that I can also carry two extra AAs for backup is huge for me), but it's nice and compact, starts up and begins recording fast, plug it into your computer and you're reviewing and editing your video in seconds, and the picture quality is just fine. I'm simply a mom who wants to capture memories of my 2 young kids, make DVDs of them and put them on YouTube to share with family. So for my use, I couldn't ask for anything more, especially at such a low price.
UPDATE**** 3 months later I still love my Flip. I use it a LOT taking videos of my children, and it's working great! I'm glad I purchased the battery pack - it lasts a long time and is so easy to charge through USB on my laptop. I've never had to use backup batteries yet.

I received this as a Christmas gift from my boss. What a surprise! It's really a lot of fun, and it worked literally right out of the box. I was recording in five minutes. It is ridiculously easy to use, and the audio and video quality is very good considering its small size. If you're just looking to capture "moments" on the fly, this is a great, lightweight, small and super portable video camera that is a breeze to use. Everything is automatic, and in low light, it beefs up the light capture automatically, although the video comes out a little grainier than normal, but it's not bad. If you're making movies or looking for High Def, you might want to try the HD version. I don't have it but I imagine it's pretty much the same, just higher quality video.
All in all, a gift I wasn't expecting, but was very pleased to received. Thanks, Grandmaster! You Rock!

My son loves to take video and upload it on Youtube. He was using my digital camera (not a video camera) and the images and sound were ok, but for Christmas we decided to try something else. I researched a lot of no name digital camcorders and the Kodak ones, but decided on the Flip because it had such good reviews. I was a little skeptical, until my son opened it Christmas morning and started using it out of the box. It is so fun, I'm kind of jealous and I want one. The video quality is better than my Sony Hi8 from 10 years ago, which I spent $1000 on at the time. The audio is ok, could use a little work there, but for what my son does it's perfect. He loves it, and I think it's one of the best presents for the price. I also love Amazon, because everything comes on time, and the price was the best I could find.Customer Review: God Bless all of you folks who warned me about the battery!

This is a nice little mini-camcorder that did a great job at recording priceless information for me at a dance seminar. It's ease of use and protability has helped to create some great video which I will refer to again and again in the future for further study and practice.
Thank God I had another set of batteries with me, because it went dead about 2/3rds through the Seminar and I had to do a quick battery replacement (which fortunately is all I needed to get me up and running again).
Thanks to all of you folks who gave me a "heads up" about the battery life (or lack thereof) and the fact that the camcorder will go dead without any warning. Your knowledge enabled me to be adequately prepared with a fallback plan ... and really helped to make my trip at great one!
