I loved the concept of the Flip Video and taking videos was as promised. My problem came when the software on the flip would not automatically load as promised on the PC. It didn't work on a MAC, a Gateway running Vista, and a Dell running Windows. I figured something was wrong with the software on the camera and worked for over three days with Flip support without ever solving the problem. They felt the problem was with the computer and I told them after trying three different computers the problem had to be the camera. I loaded new software from their web site and connected the camera to upgrade the software. The program ran for over six hours and crashed (this happened twice). I am now packing up the camera and returning it to Amazon. I agree with a previous comment on the quality of the memory. I also wonder how good the quality control at Flip is.Customer Review: Flip DIES after 60 days

I purchased a FLIP Ultra video camera on May 3. On July 5, the camera died. The screen stopped working so that I can't see what I am taking a picture of; similarly I can't see videos that are stored in the camera.
60 days is a very short time for a camera to die. I have googled the internet, and have found that a lot of people have this problem. Luckily for me, it is within the (rather short) 90 day warranty period; so hopefully they will replace it. Unfortunately, even in the best of circumstances they just replace them with a refurbished camera (i.e. a camera that had problems in the past).
In any case, I do not recommend this camera any more.
Also, on another unrelated topic, the main thing I wish this camera would have is an external microphone input.

I am so happy with this product - i only wish I would have ordered the 60 minute version, but since i usually have my tiny laptop with me it isn't too big of a deal to dump my videos.
i bought this to make videos of my dog being cute and it works perfectly for that. i carry it with me in my tiny vera bradley libby purse no problem so its great for capturing an eclectic mix of things.
i recently visited my 86 year old grandmother and the flip was perfect for whipping out and using to interview her about my grandfather, my great grand parents, and Depression life - things that might have been lost if not for the convenience of the flip! best purchase i've made in a long time!
would i use it as my primary video camera? probably not, but right now meets my needs very well.

I needed a video cam for the occasional documentation of evidence, something that was small and could be carried in a pocket or briefcase. I took a chance on this and could not have been more pleased. It is simple to use out of the box, and the detail is remarkable for the still photos captured from the video stream.
It does not have all the controls that we expect from a more pricy unit, but for most of what I needed this suited my requirements just fine.
My very first use of it was during a helicopter ride to a job site. I was partially looking for ground features, chatting with the pilot and checking the camera. When I got back to the office I was not expecting the quality of the video I was seeing on the computer monitor. For the price of the unit, it is simply amazing.

I like the Flip and it works well for short videos. It has useful attachments you can purchase for use under water or another that mounts to a bikes handlebars which is fun and it actually shoots well it must have stabilization software for this?
If you have a 2ghz computer processor make sure you do not click on the window that appears asking to upgrade the Flip software. Once you click the upgrade it requires a 4ghz computer chip for use and the Flip software will not workif you do not have the faster computer chip.
If you watch out for the software trap and use the original loaded software you will love the simpicity of the device. Lastly, it is best for short videos five or 10 minutes. It also slickly uploads to the computer using a USB port - overall a good product and a lot of fun.
