It's pragmatic. It's okay for standing it on a desk and reading from there, although turning the pages is a labor. It's been good for me because my neck gives me issues if i look down too much when i read, so that's probably the main benefit. I see too many negative comments. It's 5 bucks. How powerful of a book stand do you want for 5 bucks? No it doesn't lock. No it doesn't hold 2000 page dictionaries. It works really well with smaller books but when you turn the pages you need to remove the whole book. I do like the fact that it is small enough where you can take it on the go. I thought the shipping price was a bit high which made the price of the product higher than what I wanted to spend.!!Customer Review: Best IPad Stand

I have tried other stands and been unhappy. They force you to remove the iPad from it's case. With the fellows folding stand you can leave the iPad protected while in the stand.

I have been using these type book holders for many years. You can use it for paperback or hard cover. I personally think it's best for hardcovers. It use it for reading when I'm eating. It holds the book upright and frees your hands to eat. I have one in the car and one on the table.
