I was searching and searching online for the perfect "book-holder" for my fiancé aka English major w/a minor in Philosophy and continuing on to her Masters. As you might be able to deduct, she reads a lot! In my quest I almost broke down and purchased one of those "as seen on tv" book/laptop holder things, but last minute found this simple, yet stylish design on Amazon. I was skeptical, but liked the design. It was perfect! It works great! A couple weeks after buying this we found that "tv" book holder at a local store, and man am I glad I didn't buy that one! Big, clumsy, and just plain ugly! Not only is this one small and simple, but it completely folds up for easy storage too! Great product, in fact I may buy more! This bookstand is what any student, researcher, or writer needs, but didn't know that they needed. I had always had trouble with quoting, analyzing, and reading from my books and articles while trying to type up papers. A bookstand was suggested to me, and lo! has it helped me greatly. Now I can open a book, or rest a journal article on it, looking at it while I type.
A nice bonus of this stand is that it is double sided. One side has grips that come up to hold open stiff books. The other side is more for laying something against it, like a magazine.
A helpful device that you often don't realize you need, you will be grateful at how much assistance this little doohickey gives you!

When I first bought my iPad I immediately realized that I needed a stand for it. Surprisingly I had a book stand/copy holder from Office Depot that ended up doing a decent job. The only problem was that it was somewhat bulky and made with cheap plastic. I knew I needed something more compact for when I left the house. I also knew my kids would break that other stand sooner or later.
I'm very pleased with this stand. It folds up very compactly and fits in the netbook case that I use to transport the iPad in as well. The metal seems pretty sturdy and durable. And the plastic tips do an excellent job of keeping the the stand still while I'm swiping and tapping away on the iPad. Not bad at all.

This isn't a very attractive item. It is utilitarian, but it sure does work. Most of my textbooks that are under 1.5 inches fit into it easily. Very thick books may require a bit of "finessing" as another reviewer stated.
My only issue with all book stands: page turning. With this one (and every other I have seen) you have to do too much work turning pages. These stands work well if you are taking notes on a laptop from a textbook, but not if you are trying to quickly read through something.
Still, I recommend this item much more than other higher priced ones. I can't imagine it breaking anytime soon - it has held up to the punishment of weeks in my backpack already!

i think i saw this on the podcast "iPad Today" (iTunes). Went searching and found the best price on Amazon (like most stuff). This works great for your Pad. unless your really into cool and sharp looking stands that cost 20 to 40 bucks i highly recommend this one, built great and will hold your Pad with a case. That was the biggest thing. i have a Dodo Case which is also great and the stand will hold it closed and or open not many stands can do that. the pricy ones usually do not let you keep the Pad in a case, so your are taking it out and putting it in that is a pain..
highly recommended. in fact i am buying another one for my office. Buy it you will not be disappointed.
