My MacBook Pro was cutting into my arms when I was typing, and as a programmer, I type a lot. I think I may also have been developing the early signs of carpal tunnel, since I started to notice tingling in my fingers and pain in my wrists after typing for long periods of time. I searched the internet, but I couldn't find anything that didn't block the trackpad on my Mac, so I found these (see below for how to use them). I bought this because it got good reviews: it is firm, and the gel doesn't ooze out like other brands. I can say that this has effectively eliminated the tingling and the pain.
To use it on a Mac, I got two of these and put them on either side of the touch pad. If you're sitting in a short chair, consider placing them between the lower edge of your laptop and your desk, to make a sort of ramp that your mid-forearms can rest on.
