Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Fellowes Powershred W-11C 11 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder (3103201)Customer Review: Best shredder I have owned. Summary: 5 Stars
I have had 2 strip shredders in the past. Both had the basket you put together, flimsy with a heavy shredder on top of it. This shredded beats that hands down. It has a formed basket one piece! The shredder is heavy but it has a handle that makes it easy to pick up. It has a child safety lock and even when it is in the unlocked mode it turns off when you pick up the lid.
This is one powerful shredder. I had a stack about 4 inches deep of papers waiting for it. I fed it 1 then 2 up to 11 sheets and it will do 11 sheets but slower. I found that doing 4-5 the best. The lid doesn't cover the whole can so you can see when it is getting full. I was able to do the whole stack before I had to empty it.
The strips ave short and narrow and kinda of crinkles when you empty them. I don't think anyone could put them together. I tried to read things on them but I saw nothing that told me anything. That was what I was after.
The warranty is 3 years on the blades working but the full warranty is one year.
I am very happy with the purchase and feel like it was the best buy instead of another twenty dollar one that jams all the time and leaves things still readable.
Customer Review: Getting the job done, but much more slowly than advertised Summary: 3 Stars
So this thing is supposed to knock out 11 pages at a time. I figured that was a bit ambitious and kept my expectations low. Realistically, anything more than 3 regular sheets of paper makes this thing sweat. 2 is more like it. 6 pages? Fahgetaboutit. It sounds like it wants to roll over and die with 5. I'm getting 3 pages at a time max out of it. Anything thicker than regular sheet paper you're best off going one page at a time.
That said, I'm asking alot of this unit. I have many boxes of old papers I'm shredding and it's been a long, time-consuming project. This replaced an older Fellowes unit that finally burned out. The old one was a really light duty unit with itty bitty blades and it works at about the same rate as this one. Even though the blades appear to be far more robust, the results are similar. Err, okay, the old shredder didn't cross-cut...this one does...so maybe that comparison isn't fair. It also eats staples effortlessly...a nice touch.
All told, it's doing the job. It's just much slower than I thought it would be. The claims of 11 sheets of paper at a time are grossly overblown. I'd throw it a 5 otherwise.
Customer Review: LOVE this shredder Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Fellowes W-11C after my old cheapo, piece-of-junk shredder finally croaked from about two years of light household use. I am impressed with the W-11C so far. The old junky one (a different brand) cost almost as much at a discount department store and never did the job that this little machine does. The Fellowes machine actually shreds multiple pages at once. I put folded mail in with no problem other than minor slowing. It doesn't sound like it's struggling at all and is more quiet than I had expected. This machine made quick work of the substantial pile of to-be-shredded material that had accumulated following the failure of the old shredder. There is a nice opening at one edge of the top of the collection bin that lets the user see how much confetti has accumulated, and the handle on top of the mechanical part, which incidentally is quite heavy, makes for easy removal when it's time to empty the bin. The bin is quite a bit taller than that of the last shredder, so I'm looking forward to not emptying it quite as often. As of now, I would definitely recommend this shredder for home use.
Customer Review: Some Disassembly May Be Required Summary: 2 Stars
There are seven Phillips screws on the bottom of the Fellowes Powershred motor/cutting head module. One can, with care, unplug the unit from AC current, open it up, and extract the jammed credit card or envelope gumming up the complexly-geared cutting blades. Putting the W-11C back together takes some manual dexterity and patience. Plan to invest 20 minutes in the salvage operation.
If one limits one's shredding to five or six sheets at a time and feeds the Powershred only thin/flexible credit cards, it will likely be content. Provoke it with heavy credit/ID cards or sealed envelopes approaching the units nominal eleven sheet capacity and one may find oneself reaching for the screwdriver if/when the offending material gets wedged against the interlock switch and the unit is unable to "back it out".
This occasional misbehavior is typical of other, less expensive units I've owned. I hoped the Powershred would have a bit more moxie, but it is apparently no exception. That doesn't mean don't buy it...just be careful not to overfeed it.
Customer Review: Awesome! Totally shredded some Ponzi-type stuff Summary: 4 Stars
My boss was freaking out because I guess his Ponzi-like real estate company (I honestly didn't know at the time!) was about to get nailed by the FTC and the IRS. Anyway so he had this garage of stuff at his house and boxes upon boxes of paperwork. He was going nuts and brought everybody to his house from the office to a "shredding party" as he put it. I mean, it was cool because he supplied all the beer and we could go swimming in his pool afterwards (was like 82 degrees - awesome!) And so we had maybe 10 of these shredders and we ripped through mad amounts of this guy's old records. The noise was insane though. Can you imagine the sound of 10 of these things going for six hours?! I was plugged into my iPod Touch though. Oh yeah, the dude gave us each iPods before all this so that was cool. Anyway, so the shredder's awesome and we totally helped this dude out. I mean, he's going to jail no matter what because all this stuff was digitized. I mean, he's an idiot and I can't believe he didn't get caught years before. But anyway, the shredder WORKS!
