Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Fellowes Powershred W-11C 11 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder (3103201)Customer Review: A full featured shredder that's great for a busy home office. Summary: 5 Stars
We choked our last shredder with one of those credit card offers that was still in its envelope. This "Powershredder" chews through them very effectively. It runs a little slower the thicker the thicker the item is that your shredding. Single pieces fly through it extremely fast. We've found that a stack of 10 or 12 sheets is about the extent of its ability during extensive or prolonged use. We've used it continuously in periods of up to a half hour with no operational issues. The noise level is about average, it doesn't seem to be any quieter (or louder) than our last unit. Having the cross-cut feature (instead of just making long strips) helps to increase security. The fact that it can shred a CD/DVD or credit cards is really helpful too.
In terms of design, having a handle built into the top is a big benefit (not to mention safer). There is a locking feature that keeps the unit from getting turned on accidentally as well as a reverse switch to use to help clear jams out of the blades. It sits on top of a generous plastic container that has a lip in the front where you can see at a glance if it needs to be emptied (which helps prevent jams). It makes short work out of the tedious task of shredding and was a great investment for our small (but busy) office.
Customer Review: A good value shredder Summary: 4 Stars
This cross-cut shredder was purchased to replace an old Fellowes strip shredder that was very prone to jamming and had started screeching loudly when being operated. Upon setting up the new cross-cut shredder it was immediately apparent that this was a relatively low noise machine (for a shredder). In several weeks of moderate use I have not as yet experienced a single paper jam. The shredder normally is fed only one or two pages at a time so I can't rate how well it will do if half a dozen or more pages are put through simultaneously. Likewise, I haven't used it to shred credit cards or other heavy duty paper, cardboard, and the like, but then, it wasn't purchased with those uses in mind. The confetti-like shreddings are small enough that no one, not even Iranian hostage-takers with plenty of time on their hands, can easily piece them back together. Sensitive documents put through this machine can be safely destroyed. There's not much more to say about a shredder since it isn't a multi-function machine. It has basically one task and if it does it in a relatively quiet manner, doesn't jam often, and cuts the paper into small bits, what more can you ask for? This model passes these three tests and so far as proven to be reliable. I would buy this again and recommend it to a friend.
Customer Review: best shredder for the money Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this shredder after considerable research online. I'm satisfied that for this price range, this shredder is as good as it gets.
Pros:
- Eats 5-6 sheets really well, about what I expected for a shredder with advertised capacity of 11 sheets.
- Eats 11 sheets begrudgingly, about what I expected for a shredder with advertised capacity of 11 sheets.
- Much quieter than I expected. Does not scare my skittish dog, who does get scared by the inkjet and laser printers.
- Operates continuously without overheating. I filled the bin four times in short order without a hiccup. This is beyond what I expected for a unit in this price range.
Cons:
- Messy when you lift the unit up to empty the bin. There's quite a bit of chaff left in the blades. I've learned to spread out a couple of sheets of newspaper on which to rest the unit until it's replaced on the bin. This is probably the same for every other shredder, but as a newbie I hadn't anticipated this.
- A little tricky reseating the unit on the bin. Can take a few tries. Not a big issue, just an annoyance.
It's too early for me to have an opinion on long-term durability. If the unit holds up over time, I'll upgrade my rating to five stars.
Customer Review: Shred, Shred, Shred... Summary: 5 Stars
I've been wanting a paper shredder for a very long time because I have been keeping old bills, receipts, and misc papers for a very long time in a garbage bag in my closet. After a lot of research and reading reviews I finally took the plunge and bought this shredder from Fellowes. I'm going to have to say I've never had a paper shredder so I can't compare this one to another one. The top part of the paper shredder is heavy and has a handle with a lock button and on/off switch. The cutters on the shredder came pre greased and looked at first glance like they can shred anything. The bin itself looks to be constructed solidly and can hold a good amount of shredded paper. The shredder can handle up to 11 sheets at a time, but it does slow down/bog down the cutter but it does the job though. One thing I will comment on is the shredder is noisy/loud but hey you can't expect this thing to be whisper quiet (let's be real about this). After I shredded my garbage bag full of bill/receipts I'm pleased to say the shredder is still sharp and strong cutting paper without any issues. I've even thrown in a few credit cards here and there. I would definitely recommend this paper shredder to anyone. Definitely 5 stars all the way.
Customer Review: does paper well Summary: 5 Stars
we used this lightly for about a year. THen i tried to cut cardboard. . . it stopped. And then it started after a cool off! Don't cut cardboard with this and You'll love it.
It does handle CD's and credit cards, as well as cardstock. But don't put corrugated cardboard in it.
the '11 sheet' is a stretch, but it's reliable, fast, and clean. It will handle junk mail without you opening the envelop. Cross cut is more space efficient and more secure than strip cutting. It packs down well, and when we use it like straw in the yard or garden, it stays down.
The bin is under the shredder, and to empty it you have to lift the shredder. It's a bit heavy. This is generally cleaner than a removable bin below, but paper shreds do fly around a bit. On the other hand, the shredder always fits right back into the top of the bin, so you won't have to worry with bin placement issues. The shredder must be properly mounted to function.
It is quieter than the last one we owned. This doesn't make it quiet -I don't think there's a 'quiet' paper shredder in the world. It may not be as good as the $200 shredders, but it's great for the money.
Highly recommended for the price.
