Customer Review: Fellows cross cut W 11C shredder
Summary: 5 Stars

First as to noise, i've never heard a quiet shredder and this is no exception, however, it is not any louder than others of this size, and I have heard louder. I read reviews which recommended buying a schredder that claims to shred more pages than you really need, just so that it will shred what you actually need. This one does 8 pages w/o any problem, shreds cards as well. It has a large bin (4 quarts i believe) which is a nice feature, however that - and the fact that it does 9" wide pages - means it has a rather large footprint. so it will take a bit of room; measure where you will put it first. I asked the clerk at Best Buy and he recommended a Fellows for the money I was spending over the Activa and others. Actually, I probably would not spend this much had I not gotten a $50 gift card at Christmas, however I believe you get what you pay for, and my last/smaller schredder (which cost around $50 and was only a 6-7") over heated a lot and finally quit working after only a year or 2 (it was not a Fellows). As for the pull out bin vs the lift off [heavy] top, either has its advantages/disadvantages. Pulling out the bin when it's full creates problems, and lifting off a heavy shredding element can be a bit awkward. The distribution of weight is not bad, for the size, it could have been a little more top-heavy, but I would not perch it up high if you're worried about it falling over on a child, pet, etc. All in all, I'm pleased w/ this and hope not to be researching/buying another shredder for a long time.

Customer Review: This is THE ordinary usage home office shredder
Summary: 5 Stars

Like many people who are concerned with identify theft, we shred our junk mail charge card offers, bank statements, etc. Nothing heavy duty except maybe a lot of shredding at the end of the year in an effort to reduce some file clutter, monthly statements etc.

It seems that we go to Wal-Mart or Staples and but a shredder every few months and in fact we do. I have been through 3 Black and Decker shredders, an IBM shredder, 2 Staples branded shredders (the WORST because they were priced so high) multiple "ShredSafe" models and nothing lasts. The last ShredSafe didn't even last a month.

So I did a little research and liked the reviews here. From the moment I unpacked this and fired it up I knew that the construction and build quality was worlds above the brands that I mention and the price as in the upper middle of the pack (well below the trash from Staples). It also has intelligent design with a solid handle to remove the top easily and a slot for regular paper.

It is true that you can see it struggle a bit if you put in paper near its rated levels, but that's fine... I was just testing. I can tell right off the bat that this shredder is going to last a whole lot longer than any other one that I've tried. I don't expect perfection in today's throw away society but I do appreciate the fact that I can get a somewhat high quality like this Fellowes shredder delivered to my door for roughtly what I pay for the many low quality models that I have cited.

Customer Review: this thing is a work horse
Summary: 5 Stars

This shredder does an excellent job. I've only had the shredder for about a week, so I can't comment on its extended reliability. However, I can confirm that it does a great job with multiple sheets and credit cards. Some reviewers said it had a difficult time with credit cards. I didn't find that to be the case at all. I fed approx 20 credit cards through the shredder without it missing a beat. Also, I had a 20 inch stack of papers that had to be shredded. I fed the sheets, ranging from 1 to approx 8 sheets at a time into the shredder without a single hiccup. It's just my personal preference to not go to the stated maximum sheets (in this case 11) on any shredder so as to not strain the motor and prolong the life of the unit. Plus, the sheets feed through much more quickly, when you don't feed the maximum sheets allowed. I also purchased the shredder lubricant ([...]) in order to properly maintain the shredder and ensure the warranty (3 yr cutter warranty) isn't voided. I did lubricate the shredder a few times during my initial 20 inch stack run. I'm very pleased with this unit. In my opinion, it's the best bang for your buck for a non-commercial grade unit for home use. There are a lot of positive reviews on this unit on Amazon. After using the shredder, it is easy to see why so many people rave about the unit. One last thing, the "easy lift" handle comes in very handy when it's time to empty the receptacle.

Customer Review: Nice shredder, pretty well for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a pretty good shredder. It can shred paper very well into tiny slices. However, emptying the bin can be a bit of a pain. Lifting the shredder is easy, because there is a handle, but it is also pretty hard, because it's pretty heavy. To shred adhesives (even though it says it can't), put the adhesive on a blank sheet of paper or make one side of the adhesive stick to the other side. Overall, this is a decent shredder and I would certainly recommend it.

UPDATE: 3/1/2010
I still have this shredder. One person said this shredder can handle CD's. Honestly, from how I tested it, it can't. The CD got stuck and I had to use a scissor to finish it through. Do not try to shred CD's. Overall, still a good shredder; able to shred credit cards, unopened junk mail, invoices, and adhesives (if you follow the advice above).

UPDATE: 6/4/2010
Still running strong. This shredder still does the job to get rid of all the extra papers I don't need.

UPDATE: 9/15/2010
Still the best shredder in my house. I owned this shredder almost for 7 months and still one of the best.

UPDATE: 1/22/2011
Almost a year with this shredder. This shredder has took down so many papers and adhesive Amazon labels, this is something that was worth buying. Still no problems with this shredder. Such an incredible product.

Customer Review: A well refined product
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this after my old Fellowes shredder started making funny sounds after 10 years of hard use. I abused it way beyond its intended design, running as much as an hour at a time shredding old check books, financial documents and such, often over stuffing its thin jaw to the point of seizure. But it always came back to life after a short cooling period. It ran strong despite having never received a jolt of lubricating fluid, which every shredder should get. With this experience I became convinced of Fellowes' durability, and ordered this one after some research.

First, this shredder is not noisy by reasonable standards, and certainly less noisy than my 10 year old model. I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it sounded after being conditioned to expect much worse from the reviews. And it makes mincemeat of junk mail that would make my old shredder seize up. The automatic shut off was a pleasant surprise, as I don't remember reading about it on the specs. Now I just leave it on stand by and jam any wayward credit card solicitation that comes my way. I have not found its top heavy design to be a problem even though it's sitting on carpet.

I do think a clear window with which I could gauge the level of the basket would be nice. Other than that, it's a very nice product with good design and execution.
