Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Fellowes P-57Cs, 8 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder 3205701Customer Review: It's all good except for the Meth. Summary: 3 Stars
This a decent home shredder that *can* shred at least 8 sheets of paper at a time if you take a second to stagger the pages before loading them to be cut. And while it's true that it doesn't cut papers up to the point that they're confetti, none of the pieces are longer than 1.5 inches, and half as wide as a small paper clip.
I guess if you live in a neighbored that has a good number of Meth heads (Who, when they're tweaking, have been known to not only go through your garbage to look for personal info so they can steal your ID, but will actually SUCCESSFULLY RECONSTRUCT shredded documents, no matter how tiny the bits have been cut into. Who knew that one of the side effects of doing Meth was hyper-focus?) then you may want to consider an alternative to this product for making your info inaccessible. I recommend gasoline and a match.
Again, it's decent enough for what if does; even more so it you happen to catch it when Amazon lowers the price like I happened to.
Customer Review: Not Powerful Enough Summary: 2 Stars
The primary reason I decided to purchase this shredder was the description states it "shreds up to 8 sheets per pass". I shred documents on a regular basis and wanted something that would accomodate multiple sheets of paper at a time. Unfortunately I've never come close to getting eight sheets of paper to shred in this machine at one time without incident. It usually jams and must be reversed several times to complete the shred. When it does complete a shred without incident the machine is extremely noisy and you can hear it struggling to complete the job. All shredders create some noise while shredding but this one is much louder than others I have used in the past. I tried applying oil to lubricate the teeth thinking this might help it shred more efficiently but it made no difference. This shredder is probably fine if you have the need to shred single pages on occasion, like a one or two page bill, but definitely not efficient for shredding multiple pages of documents on a regular basis.
Customer Review: Great shredder for the price Summary: 5 Stars
It seems I go through a shredder at least once a year. Once out of the box, most seem to be flimsy and poorly made, and the steel cutters never seem to move as smoothly as they should. I actually saw this model in person, before purchasing and, since it seemed pretty sturdy, I went a head and bought it.
Went I first powered this up, I could instantly tell it was a cut above other shredders in this price range. The motor sounded powerful, and the cutters rotated quickly and smoothly, as long as you stick to the recommended number of pages in one feeding.
The only drawback, is that I wish it had a slightly wider paper feeder. At 9", it seems you have to be inordinately precise about the paper placement, to avoid jamming the pages. This is only a problem, however, if you're pushing the margin on the number of pages you shred at once.
Overall, this is a great little shredder, and the best I've ever purchased in this price range.
Customer Review: Extremely Light Duty Shredder Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this shredder a couple of weeks ago. Have been using it for a week now. Its OK, but it is much more of a light duty shredder than I realized. I had read all the reviews but hadn't figured that out. I am writing this as informational only. Its rated at 8 sheets, but almost struggles with 2 sheets, 3 pretty much makes me think I will need to disasemble it. Just putting in an envelope makes the machine sound like its struggling. I just tried to shred a credit card and I was sure it was jamming, but it did go through. It is very loud. I finally burned out my last shredder of 12 years, it had cost quite a bit more at that time (around $100) but it was quiet and could easily take 6 sheets. Since this thing is so cheap, $50 its probably worth it. Sort of wish I bought a better one now, but its to much of a hassle to send it back. In the future I will purchase shredders in local stores. Hope this info helps someone. PS. I am using this for home, not a business.
Customer Review: My First Shredder -- Very Satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
I spent many weeks looking for a good deal and finally settled on the P-57Cs, my first shredder. It works really well and shreds 8 lightweight sheets fine, but if the paper is a heavier weight, it bogs down or occasionally jams. After awhile, you get the hang of how much you can feed it without jamming. The shredder mechanism sits on top of a trash can and must be removed to empty. It gets a little messy (paper shreds fall on floor) while trying to shred 10 years worth of documents but it should be fine when I get into a more normal shredding pattern. I bought the oil too, but the manual says to "only use a non-aerosol vegetable oil in a long nozzle container" so you might find a better deal at your local grocery store. The manual says to run it for 5-7 minutes at a time which will fill up the basket about 1/2 to 2/3 full. Overall, after about 5 days now, I am very pleased with this shredder and am glad I didn't order the larger size, which I had also considered.
