Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Fellowes P-57Cs, 8 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder 3205701Customer Review: Does what it is supposed to do Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased this shredder and i am extremely happy with my buy. The Shredder does work as advertised, although there is some merit to some of the bad reviews as the chord is rather short and it does sometimes run into minor trouble when shredding full junk mail envlopes.
ALTHOUGH what these people fail to realize is that while jamming mass amounts of stuff in there one after the other, most shredders under 100 bucks aren't going to be able to handle that load. If you do that the shredder will tend to get hot and possibly jam. This shredder is not intended to be a mass mail shredder, if you need something like that then that stop being cheap and spend more then 50 bucks.
The products works wonderfully for most kind of mail if you are patient and feed it through slowly, i went through about 2 years of old bills and what not in about 20 min, which for the sane and patient is not a long amount of time. This shredder was not intended for you to take all your mail and just start jamming it in the slot. Take a little time out of your life and just put it into sheet stacks and it will work to perfection.
Lastly do not buy the oil for the shredder as you can just use vegetable oil as instructed in the user manual, so save yourself the money.
Customer Review: Worst shredder I've ever bought! Summary: 1 Stars
I've bought a lot of electronic devices from Amazon, but this is absolutely the worst purchase I've ever made. I openly admit that I should have returned it during the grace period, but didn't. I moved to a new home and opened a new business, so this wasn't a priority. In retrospect, I have to say that this shredder never worked. I did everything according to the manual to make it doable, but this so-called-tested machine would not feed documents and stopped half way through shredding every time. Based on the experiences of other folks with this machine, and my observations of what it is/isn't doing, I must say that I got a lemon. Since I can no longer return it, I'm trying to make it work for me. The problem is that the contact switch in the shredder head does not depress and so will not function. My solution has been to place a heavy weight (cinder block) on the switch side so that I can at least shred a bit. I should have returned it right away, and take responsibility for that, BUT I am bummed out that I must eat the cost of such a defective product. AND I never noticed that after 5-7 minutes of shredding, it overheats and shuts down for a 20 minute cooling off period - this is NOT my idea of a user friendly machine.
Mea culpa, Caveat emptor ,..
Customer Review: EXCELLENT VALUE FOR A HOME (MODERATE) USE Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this shredder to replace a store brand diamond cut unit I had bought a couple years ago at a local office supply shop. I spend almost as much on the old shredder as this new one and there's NO comparison in quality or value. My old shredder, an Ativa unit, had a weak motor and jammed when more than two pieces of paper were inserted. After a few months my old unit started to clog with paper and most of the teeth in the middle either broke off or bent. This unit on the other hand seems to have a very powerful motor. The blades seem heavy duty and for my uses (shredding junk mail and old bills once they're paid) this is the perfect solution. Low cost and high quality. As mentioned I have not tried to run more than 3 pages through at a time but I did put an old credit card in and it took it just fine.
If you are planning on using this for moderate shredding in the home then this is a great solution. If you're planning on purchasing a shredder for heavy use such as in a small or large business you would be better served spending a few extra bucks and getting a more powerful, higher capacity product.
Customer Review: Very good purchase. Summary: 5 Stars
I've never owned a shredder before, and I bought this as a companion to ScanSnap S510M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner. The whole idea is to go paperless. This was a great buy.
Some people have said they didn't care for the fact that this shredder couldn't take more than a few sheets at a time... I think I've done 5 at once. Sure, it goes slow - if you try to jam a bunch of papers into it at once.
This is a consumer-grade device though. I'm not expecting it to work like an industrial-grade shredder. All I have to say is this... use the right tool for the job.
If something slows down, or seems to jam, kick it in reverse then back into forward to get things moving again.
Also, from reading the other reviews, I'd recommend turning the unit off when not in use. There are three positions to the switch (I O R). The "O" is the Off position. This will keep the LED and sensor from burning out.
In the end, a very good purchase. Very reasonably priced. I recommend it.
Customer Review: Was skeptical, now am a fan Summary: 4 Stars
Just took delivery of this shredder tonight. None too soon as the trash is due for pickup in the morning and I have a stack of old statements to shred (spring cleaning, you see).
I had a stack of papers easily 18 inches high. It was a lot. I know that these things can overheat and die but I figured, hey, I just got it, it is under warranty, why not push it a little. I was impressed with how it performed. I shredded about 3/4 of my pile of papers pretty quickly. I was able to do 3 sheets at a time without noticable motor drag... 4 sheets started to drag the motor, 5 sheets would really strain the motor, and I didn't try anything more.
I did pause and wait a few times for 15 minutes or so to let the motor cool, but I am not sure this was terribly necessary. This shredder performed as expected, which pleased me.
What would I change? The cord can get in the way when placing the shredder back on the trash can, which is an annoyance, but is only a minor issue.
All in all, I would recommend this shredder. I will update this post if anything changes after more use.
