Maybe I had too high an expectation, but I've yet to see this go through 8 sheets of paper. Constantly jams. Nearly worthless for shredding all the credit card junk mail offers I get. Have to open each one and feed them through at most 3 sheets at a time.
Maybe it can cut 8 sheets of TP, but even cheap glossy paper causes issues. And god forbid if you try and shred an envelope. Other shredders I've used work fine, just drop a piece of junkmail, envelope and all and your done. Not so here. An standard size envelope with 2 sheets inside results in 8 sheets thick to cut through. I have tested it and found that a single piece of paper in a standard tri-fold envelope typically jams. That's only 6 sheets thick. If you want a practical device, go bigger and better. This thing does not work as advertised.

My ten year old paper shredder chose to bite the dust at the worst moment, three days after I was laid off from my job. Although, not considered a necessity, it was of utmost importance that I replace it, as quickly as possible, to discourage identify theft. I read all the shredder reviews I could find, in hopes of purchasing a new shredder that would both meet my needs and yet be a good value for the buck. I selected the Fellowes 32057 Powershred P-57Cs Shredder and have no regrets. I really put it to the test from the very first day, with my box marked "Papers waiting to be shredded." I would recommend this shredder to anyone looking for a value to handle home office use. Amazon.com not only had the best price but my shipping was FREE. I researched this item on a few different online shopping sites and I agree with most of the comments. It is good for light use (although the first thing I did was shred two 30 gallon garbage bags full of stuff to purge lots of old documents). It powered through all of that with only one jam, and that was with more than the number of rated pages (10-12?). It is not as loud as I thought it would be, but I won't be running it inside while the kids are sleeping. I also like that it effectively has two on/off switches (one on the top for forward/reverse/off) and a standard on/off switch on the side. This, combined with the other safety features are great if you want an extra layer bit of protection if small kids are wandering around the house.
Totally great for the price. Definitely recommend it.
Customer Review: Not for people who get a lot of spam mail

This is a good product. No doubt about it. But is it good for people who want to just get rid of their spam mail as-is without even opening the envelope? I don't think so.
I think the 8 sheet rating applies only when you insert 8 unfolded sheets of paper. I tried with 2 sheets of paper folded twice (8 layers) and the shredder choked on it. That is why I say that it won't be useful for people who want to shred their spam mail fast. Even though the REVERSE function gets rid of the Jam, what is the use of buying an automatic shredder if it cannot handle what it is advertised to do?
I have returned the product and am planning to go to the local Fry's or Office Depot to see shredders in action. It is too painful to order something this big online only to return it within few hours.

This is my third shredder. Each one is better than the last. This is my best shredder so far.
PROS:
*It is powerful. I can shed multiple sheets, usually 4 or so at at a time, without jamming or overheating or slowing down.
*It eats credit cards and staples. I don't have to remove staples before feeding the machine and the credit cards go through easily.
*It is enclosed on all sides so that little fingers can't slide in or under.
*It has the safety sensor that shuts the shredder off when touched. I haven't had any problems with it causing the machine function to stop unnecessarily.
*It makes confetti rather than strips for more secure shredding.
CONS:
*I honestly don't have any complaints.
