Customer Review: Booklift gets the job done.
Summary: 4 Stars

A good book stand if you need something portable. I use the book stand regularly with Physics for Scientists and Engineers with Modern Physics, Chapters 1-46 (with CengageNOW 2-Semester, Personal Tutor Printed Access Card), a 1500 page book weighing 7 pounds. The stand has never collapsed and holds pages as tightly or loosely as I need. When studying the early chapters or later chapters in the physics book, I shift the book left or right to center the weight on the stand. The stand is also useful for my cook books and Kindle. However a large book like CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, 91st Edition, at 2600 pages, is too thick for the stand (along with most other book stands).

The only hassle I've had are parts will tend to pop off when folding the stand flat or getting the stand ready to use. Three parts are most prone for coming off, the two page holders in the front and the upper piece along the back supporting the stand. The parts snap back into place and never popped out when actually supporting a book. Only when in the process of putting the stand away or getting it out. The Fellowes Booklift is not a perfect stand, but it gets the job done. If you don't mind popping parts back into place and portability is important for you at a descent price, the Fellowes Booklift is a good way to go.

Pro:
Very portable being light weight and folding flat.
Low cost.
Will hold ~1500 page text book firmly.

Con:
Parts will pop out when folding flat or setting up.
Will not hold ~2600 page books.

** EDIT **
10/19/2010

A couple of months ago, shortly after my initial review, I used a Q-tip to apply a very small amount of WD-40 (lubricant)to the joints where pieces kept popping out. Since then I haven't had a single piece pop out of place even with frequent use.

Customer Review: Great product, great price
Summary: 5 Stars

I considered many different book stands and ended up deciding to try this one, provisionally, and get the Jasmine Book Stand if this one didn't work out. As it turns out, this works fine. It doesn't look like much (white plastic), but it is light, folds flat, and holds my 980-page hardcover economics textbook (8.25 inch wide when closed, 10 inch tall) and my 760-page softcover statistics textbook (slightly smaller dimensions) just fine. The angle is adjustable (8 increments) from perhaps 15 to 70 degrees. The flap at the bottom of the rack that holds the base of the book is only 1.5 inches wide, but there are two adjustable stays on the bottom of that flap to hold a book in place, and because those stays do not need to be perpendicular to the base (they can adjust outwards, toward the reader). This design allows it to hold my 2-inch textbook, even when open to the earlier or later pages (when 80-90% of the thickness of the book is on one side or the other).

I'll update this review if it breaks or comes up short in some way, but for now I would say I am very pleased with my purchase and I'm glad I held off on the more expensive model. (Though if you're going to use this in any kind of professional setting, the Jasmine stand would certainly look nicer.)

Customer Review: Great Textbook Holder
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't understand the number of negative reviews... this product works great. Some reviewers said it's plastic and breaks easily. Yes, it's plastic and I suppose you could break it without too much difficulty but it doesn't break under normal use. I use mine to hold open textbooks that measure 10"x16" (when open) and are over 500 pages. The book holder works fine in all respects. Specifically, it supports the book without tipping or wobbling as I turn the pages, the pages are prevented from turning by themselves even with a fan blowing on it, I can slide it across my desk without it collapsing and when I'm done it folds flat for easy storage. One feature I really like is the fact that the tabs that normally hold the pages in place can be folded flat to accommodate very large books (700+ pages). I don't know what else I could ask from a product such as this! I can recommend this product without reservation.

Customer Review: decent and useful
Summary: 4 Stars

This book holder is made of plastic and seems a little flimsy, but so far it's holding up decently. The back stand uses two pieces, and is adjustable. There are two tabs in the front which you can move forward and backward so that you can turn pages more easily or insert new books without fear of ruining a page. They are also a problem. I have found that they can pop out from use as they only have a fitted notch keeping them in place at the bottom of the unit.

I can also see how a book larger than 2 inches in thickness can be an issue, as the depth of the base is roughly an inch deep. I've not yet had to work with this (I use it for typing up class notes from notebooks at this time) with a book of that size, but i can picture my coffee cup coming into play if I ever use it with a book of that size.

Customer Review: Best deal ever
Summary: 5 Stars

This product was awesome. It is light, ,made of durable plastic, and folds for easy storage. It can easily fit in any backpack. It even holds my biggest college textbooks with ease. The little foldable pegs at the bottom are handy in preventing the wind or a fan from turning a page. Reading a and or upright is so much easier on my eyes. A must have for students, avid readers, or parents with children in school.

In short
Pros:
Lightweight
durable
won't starch or break easily
(trust me I accidentally drooped mine my driveway and still perfect.)
Folds for easy storage
great for backpacks and tote bags
folding pegs to hold pages

Cons:
Why didn't I get this order this product sooner?
otherwise perfect.
