Customer Review: FELLOWS Multi media storage rack
Summary: 4 Stars

Love this item. Its not huge, it was just the right size for my living room.

Customer Review: not bad.....for kindling
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this item from some other online seller.

It's useless, except for kindling. It burns very well.

Expensive kindling though.

If you still buy this item EVEN after all these true, accurate, and frank reviews, then perhaps you deserve it.

Live long and prosper!

Customer Review: Great for stable environments
Summary: 3 Stars

It was fairly easy to put together, the hardest part being getting the pegs to all line up and stay lined up at once with my dog bounding about. Once finished I realized I needed to leave it in the corner as once you bump it, or grab a cd from a packed section, stuff falls. Everywhere. It's not that the rack itself is unstable, but the dowels are round so the contact area is minimal, meaning friction is minimal, and it's like a pivot point. The dvds on the ends will turn and fall. So the only solution is to pack it too tightly for anything to be able to turn when you pull one out. Guess I either need to get another one...or buy more dvds

Customer Review: Good for the money but, not great overall
Summary: 3 Stars

Good for the money but, not great overall. Flimsy but holds a lot of dvd's.

Customer Review: It is what it is and is as advertised
Summary: 5 Stars

I read through a lot of reviews here and needed some cheap DVD racks to last a couple of months while I upgrade my entire system and find NICE furniture. I was expecting the rack to be wobbly and to lean but at the price I didn't care so I ordered two.

Well, the first one went together perfectly. Much to my surprise it was totally stable; no leaning, no wobbling. It was just a nice media rack. The second one went together and leaned to one side. I examined it and found that one piece didn't go in perfectly right because a hole was drilled slightly off center, so the screw did not fully seat. To resolve it I backed out the screws, put pressure on the piece to try to center it a little better, and re-tightened the screw. It did slightly split the wood, but it mated together correctly this time, and the stand was now stable and didn't lean. The split was extremely minimal and is on the underside of a shelf so it is not visible.

Screw caps: They fit extremely loosely. The kit comes with a TINY packet of wood glue, but the glue was completely dry. I didn't bother with the screw caps as I bought the racks as a temporary measure.

Pros:

* Dark cherry wood is attractive
* if assembled correctly it does NOT wobble or lean as some claimed
* You can fit a LOT of media on these units

Cons:

* it comes packages with a minuscule packet of dried wood glue for screw caps. They should either ship a small bottle of Elmer's or simply don't ship any at all, and just manufacture the screw caps to better tolerances so a press-in friction fit will work.
* DVDs and CDs do fall off the rack fairly easily (an inherent flaw of this style rack in general; not a quality control issue)
* some holes drilled off-center.

Tips:

* Check and double-check that the screw holes line up properly. Tolerances do vary so you may have success switching rails from level to level until you find the best fit
* If you use a good cordless drill for assembly, set the clutch to one of the lowest-torque settings
* Tighten screws until fully seated and snug, but no more than a few inch-pounds of torque. Screw until the wood *just* begins to compress but no tighter.
* Unless skilled with a screw gun or drill, I recommend starting the screws by hand

For the price you can't beat it. You can't buy the lumber cheaper to build it yourself from scratch.

I might actually end up keeping these racks. They do look nice, and while I would like a larger cabinet that closes and protects the media from unsightly dust, these racks hold a lot more media than most for the size.
