I had the "other brand"- it gave false alarms. I purchased this Safety Siren unit and have had no false alarms ever for the months that I've owned it. I can't attest to its performance when there are elevated gas levels and I hope I don't need to find out. I recommend this model Safety Siren.
Description of Safety Siren CO & Gas Detector Alarm
Combination Carbon Monoxide & Gas Monitor . Add double protection to your family with a combination carbon monoxide monitor and natural gas or propane gas alarm. Use as a propane gas monitor when plugged in near the floor near a propane furnace, proane heater or propane cooking range. Use as a natural gas monitor when plugged ito an electrical outlet near the ceiling above a natural gas appliance. Made in the USA, this combination gas alarm is a 120VAC direct plug in gas monitor for both carbon monoxide and for combustible gas. If you are limited in space, this carbon monoxide detector with natural gas, methane or propane alarm is one option. SM-TT-203 Carbon Monoxide and Combustible Gas Alarm Features: 3-in-1 gas detector for dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, propane and methane (natural gas). Two sensors, one for carbon monoxide; one for natural gas or propane gas. Two independent 85dB alarms, one for carbon monoxide, the other for methane/liquid propane. Computerized calibrationhelps eliminate false alarms. Built-in self-diagnostics tests gas alarm for proper operation. Power: 110-120v AC. Power Consumption: about 15 watts.
