Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Eye-Fi Pro 4 GB SDHC Wireless Flash Memory Card EYE-FI-4PC

Customer Review: Great addition for camera.
Summary: 4 Stars

Definitely a nice piece of kit. It is easy to set up, easy to use and does what it claims to. That said, there are some issues with using the card. First, since it's an SDHC card and sits inside the camera, there is a lack of any local status indicator to inform you something is going on. I poll the Eye-Fi site using the iPhone app to work around this. Second, it's probably just me, but I tend not to be around access points that this card can use. It's useful for the places I've manually programmed the card for, but hasn't been as useful as I thought for on the go uploading. Third, there is no write protect tab on the card. This prevents the CHDK firmware from autoloading on my camera without physically modifying the card. Finally, when formatting the card to a non-standard cluster size (to use CHDK) the card works and can upload photos, but the Eye-Fi manager desktop software can no longer communicate with the card (on a Mac at least).

Even with the issues I have, which most people probably don't care about, I would recommend this card. Eye-Fi support will probably be a factor in choosing my next camera!

Customer Review: Eye-Fi : Greatest Can't Be Without Accessory
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first got the Eye-Fi card with my new DSLR, I thought it would be great for trips and other occassions where the the Geo-TAGGING feature would be neat. The really great part was the auto upload to my computer. No cards to pull out, no cords, just seamless quick transfer of the photos. I really like the "as you shoot" transfer via wi-fi to my computer. I do some product photography in my home studio and its fantastic to review the shots as I take them, so I can check for focus, lighting, composition etc. on the spot. The transfer is lightning fast for JPEG's (even large file size) but a bit slow for RAW or TIF.I would like to try the newer "class 6 cards" since they should give a bit faster speed.

I don't even use my other SDHC cards anymore. I have used this card for airshows with fast moving aircraft shot at 7 Frames Per Second, event photos, family gatherings, landscapes and nature.

I just recently got another card for my point and shoot camera too.

I can't imagine not having this device. Its fantastic!

Customer Review: A lot of technology packed in a small package for a reasonable price.
Summary: 5 Stars

Professional camera systems (Nikon, Canon, Olympus, etc.) have been attempting to do what Eye-Fi Pro does for a couple of years and all of their solutions are clunky. Eye-Fi is not a tool for people who do not take photography seriously. It uses technologies that will require some understanding of computer setup. You need to setup a wireless network, setup your sharing sites, storage path, etc. It could not be any easier, but that is sometimes not easy enough for casual users of computers and technology in general.

If you are a little knowledgeable of computers and technology, then this product can make the process of getting your photos where they need to be so you can share and edit them. It takes care of one of the things that many people have the most trouble with pictures; putting them on your computer.

The Pro version was an automatic buy for me. I have been waiting for a "Pro" version because I shoot RAW and the previous products; while great, wouldn't do anything more me without RAW support.

Customer Review: Not as good as a USB cable, but much more expensive
Summary: 2 Stars

I am very dissatisfied with the Eye-Fi Pro 4 GB SDHC Wireless Flash Memory Card EYE-FI-4PC.

The transfer speed from my Canon SX20is 12 MP camera to my Apple MacBook Pro was unacceptably slow - for the record, I had selected local transfer, not transfer to a website. My AirPort wireless router is only 5 feet away from the camera (and card), so there should not be any delay caused by excessive separation between device and router. According to Eye-Fi tech support (my third support call), there is no faster transfer rate possible with this card. Also, in a 30 image transfer session, my Eye-Fi account mysteriously closed, and I had to relog in.

Finally, the images remain on the camera unless the user MANUALLY deletes them; certainly nowhere as seamless as USB cable/iPhoto.

Oh yes, the user must manually open iPhoto, even though iPhoto was selected as the destination in the Eye-Fio application.

Bottom line: save your money!

Customer Review: WiFi Pro
Summary: 4 Stars

The EyeFi Pro works in a SD-to-CF adapter in my Canon 40D when configured to connect to a full wireless network (wireless router on DSL connection to internet) without requiring that pictures be sent to a photoserver on the web...the photos go directly to a destination PC and folder on that PC.

I was unable to configure the EyeFi Pro to connect to an adhoc network, using either of my Windows XP portables (a ThinkPad notebook, an Acer Aspire netbook). I tried contacting EyeFi and they provided detail instructions, but in spite of that I could not make it work on adhoc connection. A disappointment, since this was the desired configuration I wanted when shooting on site. The claim is that Win7 is less problematic than WinXP for adhoc, but until I switch over we won't really know for sure if that claim is accurate.

The product does handle RAW or JPG files, which you can choose by file type whether or not to transfer by default.
